ok just listened to this a couple times more and now i intensely disagree with anyone who says this is front-loaded. the waters are much more calm during the second half but no less shimmering and pristine

what a phenomenal album im shocked how much i like this
|

The latter half is infinitely weaker imo. Towers to gonna get better is a pretty boring stretch. Every song before that is sublime tho

It's weaker but not bad. Does enough damage to keep it from the 'potential classic' conversation (even my 4.5 is admittedly the result of new album rush/hype - this is probably a 4), but not enough to make it go any lower. There's some subtle beauty in those spaces, they're just not that exciting.

Growing on me - 'Skyline' is one of the best of the year and easily a top 5 BSS song.

I'm starting to think that this not only delivered the best BSS songs in a long time but on stuff like 'Stay Happy' it also delivers the best Dirty Projectors songs of the year.

This is more than a hug of thunder. It's like getting banged by thunder. This is easily the most spirited, uplifting indie-rock I've heard this year, if not ever. Listen to this, I dare you not to smile.

I'm guessing I should hear You Forgot... before this one?
|

first impression is that this is a less interesting/sanitized version of sea when absent. sleek and linear indie rock with no blisters. soft pass but i'll come back to it

Curbed my rating for this from 4.5 to 4.1 as it doesn't hold water with my 90%'s and higher of the year, but this is still an easy album to adore. Simple and uplifting.
