I love this album, the sounds used here are fantastics. About the same time this album was released Beck collaborated with Charlotte Gainsbourg, very high quality music.

people sure sleep on this, great record
love me some restrained Beck (only this and Mutations fit the category basically)

1st listen and I'm surprised this doesn't get more love
I think it's brevity is a strength since it's almost all kill no filler

Never did hear this one (or The Information). I'm sure it's better than his recent dreck but I really don't find that more Beck is something I terribly need at this point.

It's weird for Beck because it's really stripped back and immediate
It almost feels wrong saying this since it's treated as forgettable by even Beck's fanbase, but it might be top 3 Beck behind only Odelay and Sea Change. It's a huge change-up after The Information which is BLOATED AS FUCK and all over the place (but has some great moments among some lame ones)
This is great not because it breaks any barriers, but because it's a no-bullshit meat and potatoes album that cooked the meat and potatoes perfectly. Like his goal was the make banal sound really good and he did it
Light 4.5/5, maybe a 4, deff not a 5

lol this is the first review I ever wrote – the work of a naive sound-drunk 16 year old – and I'm quite happy I chose this album for that silly distinction. it (the album lol) has def aged really really well, one of the only Beck albums I return to in full with any frequency, *raising* it to a 4
