For me Kenny has a better vocal range.
Themata choruses are so strong, melodic and resonant.
I love the Tool/Porcupine Tree type song arrangements on Sound Awake.

If all of Karnivools discog was as strong as Themata I'd be agreeing with you. Unfortunately its not, but obviously you disagree.

TBE have greater catalogue depth so far.
I didn't like Kvool's Persona EP, whilst the TBE one is very strong.
Begins Here + Final Conv are excellent, yet Imago didn't stick for some reason.
It's personal preference but I just got so much more out of Themata + Sound Awake. Different albums but superb for me.

Final Conversation, really? And Imago is rated 5 for me, so yeah.

That's music...very subjective. Just can't explain it sometimes.

For sure dude. It's the most consistent thing TBE have put out. Begins Here is just as close.
Imago and Final Conversation have very awesome songs, but have a lot of meh inbetween.

yeah i hear the new album they are workin on is meant to combine a bit of everything across the discog in one go......could be a good or bad thing but i cant see them putting anything awful out there

The new song they've been playing, '5 Golden Rings', in some of the sections is easily one of the heavier songs they've done, but it also gets pretty mellow in others. It reminds me a lot of Beautiful Mine actually.

Are they just in the writing process at the moment? It seems like forever since I've had some new TBE.

Yeah they're writing/demoing atm. Last i heard, they had about 5 or 6 songs done. They're not a band that writes a heap of songs before recording either, so new stuff wont be too far away. Plus, Clint and the bassist Glenn both have side projects touring atm.
Clint's is 'Thousand Needles in Red' and Glenn's is 'A Family of Strangers'

Beautiful mine is my favourite TBE song so if they come up with even one song that pushes that standard ill be well happy

that does sound real promising, i hope he keeps with the bit of aggression in the vocals that kinda went missing over the last two albums

That's the only thing im worried about. Like, the early versions of Room Without a View from the last album, the chorus was yelled/screamed/quite heavy, then it came out on the album all mellow. So im hoping that doesnt happen this time.
But if ever there was a time to plug a band, this is it.
Everyone go check out a band called 'Helm'. Think Isis crossed with Begins Here era TBE. They're from the Gold Coast and they're amazing.

yeah ill be disappointed if they go down that road again, love clint's voice when he puts a bit of emotion and aggression behind it

Oh man, the new song is sooo good. And Billy, Imago is also in my top 5 of all time. Up there with Soundgarden and Deftones - it just fucking clicks with me like nothing else. I don't know what the "meh in between" is that Powerban's referring to cause that shit just fucking rules all the way through. This Year, anyone?

Imago did have filler, not as much as Final Conversation but it was still there. I thought Imago was my favourite for a while. Until I found I started skipping some tracks to get to the good ones. Imago had their greatest singles, that's for sure.
Don't get me wrong though, every single one of their albums are damn awesome.

Oh and I did check out Helm when you suggested them to me a while ago Billy. They sounded quite good and they're on my list once I get through the backlog of albums I'm trying to get into.
