Review Summary: Just another deathcore band with nothing special to offer, Waking The Cadaver will quickly be forgotten in this quickly growing genre.
This is one of the most boring bands I've ever heard in me life.
Waking The Cadaver, based out of the underground scene of New Jersey. Combining simple breakdowns, common "deathcore" vocals, and riffs that require no talent, these guys attract all the guys and girls I know who attempt to be brutal, but know nothing of bands such as
Cryptopsy,
Death, and
Carcass. But I'm not here to bash on them. Let's get down to the music.
Waking The Cadaver's lineup consists of:
Don Campan: Vocals
Dennis Morgan: Drums
Nick Palmateer: Guitar
Jerry Regan: Guitars
Steve Vermilyea: Bass
I was first acquainted with this band when my friend told me of the "br00talness" of this band. I went onto the band's myspace, and listened to the song
Chased Through The Woods by a Rapist. I thought the intro was pretty cool, with a man talking about killers and how they're different. And then the music comes in, and oh boy, was that an experience. The singer sounds worse than the lead singer from Job For A Cowboy, and that's pretty hard to do. The guitars consist of simple "jun jun jun" palm muted riffs. But I must admit, the second breakdown in this song did make me nod my head a little, kinda catchy. At one point, the singer even sounds like he is say "SHREDDED WHEAT!", I thought it was hilarious. But then it all goes downhill from there. The double bass in the end of the song is pretty quick, but nothing special. It's also a good thing that this song is under 3 minutes, as is the next song. I'd give this a 1.5/5.
The next song,
Blood Splattered Satisfaction, is even worse than the first one. The song starts off with some drum wankery, and very bland riff comes in. The singer starts breeing and makes the song unlistenable. The riffs are also very repetitive in this song, as are the breakdowns in both songs. I can't say any more, good or bad, about this song. It's a 1/5.
I'm really hoping that this is a subgenre that will just fade away. It's ruining the face of metal everywhere. By the way, on the band's myspace, there is a video for
Blood Splattered Satistfaction. Check it out if you like gore and music with no substance.
