| I'll admit that I actually would have enjoyed listening to this if I didn't speak English... or even if I just didn't know the meaning of a couple words (I'm sure you can guess which ones).rBut I do. I fully understand the argument that 'those words' are supposed to provoke emotions and are not targeted at any group, but that doesn't change the fact that they ARE targeted at a group. rToo bad. He's obviously got talent, but he's behind the curve on this one. |

I don't understand a lot of the flack that this album is getting... Falling Down is actually one of my favorite
songs. Her voice is definitely throaty, but I'm into that. The production is beautiful and I like her spin on the
lyrics. I'm admittedly not a huge Tom Waits fan, but it sounds like she did her best to give him credit and she
obviously admires him. Idk. Maybe I'm just an amateur and everybody else has better eardrums. It seems like
she walked into this and there was nothing she could do BUT get hate. |

| The Evens Get Evens | 4.0 |
| The Concretes In Colour | 1.0 |
| I bought this on a whim because their debut is pretty amazing, but this sucks. Her voice is toned down and the entire orchestration is pretty uninspiring. |
| Okkervil River The Stage Names | 2.5 |
| I was pretty disappointed. 'Down The River Of Golden Dreams' is one of my favorite albums, but I really had trouble focusing for more than one or two songs with this one. Too bad. Still a great band, though. |
| Lavender Diamond Incorruptible Heart | 3.0 |
| I'll be honest: it was absurdly happy (not usually my cup of tea) and REALLY long... but I loved it. |
| The Velvet Underground The Velvet Underground & Nico | 4.0 |
| I'll admit that I like this primarily for Nico on 'I'll Be Your Mirror' and 'Femme Fatale' (which, I'm sure, isn't a very popular statement), but the rest is quite good as well. Lou's voice is a little grating (not to my taste) but he makes up for it with his lyrics. |
| Crystal Castles Crystal Castles III | 2.5 |
| Islands Return To The Sea | 1.5 |
| I love The Unicorns (so I'll admit that i had high expectations) but this was just underwhelming. Where's the cheek? Where's the originality? This sounds like every other run-of-the-mill folk/pop act out there. |

| Mac DeMarco 2 | 1.5 |
| I'll admit that this isn't really my genre, but it's been getting good reviews so I gave it a listen. Not impressed. Sounds like half a million other acoustic albums out there. |
| Diamond Rings Special Affections | 2.0 |
| I really wanted to like it because it looked like it was going to sound kind of like The Drums... but I was really disappointed. His voice is interesting, but the beats and lyrics are tired. Sorry 'bout it. |
| Land Of Talk Some Are Lakes | 3.0 |
| It was okay. Her voice is pretty but there wasn't enough variation for this to be truly remarkable. |
| Gold Motel Summer House | 2.5 |
| The Thermals The Body, The Blood, The Machine | 5.0 |
| Iron & Wine Our Endless Numbered Days | 4.0 |
| Hot Snakes Suicide Invoice | 2.0 |
| All I heard was noise. I don't get any of the hype... lyrics were nothing to gawk at, his voice is maybe average, and the instruments are pretty unremarkable. Sounds like half a dozen other 'punk' albums out there. |
| Bat For Lashes The Haunted Man | 1.5 |
| She always manages to disappoint me... Laura is one of my favorite singles of the year, but there isn't a single other song on this album worth listening to. Love ya, but this sucks. |
| Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights | 5.0 |
| Grouper A I A | 1.5 |
| There just wasn't enough going on. DADDUAH is one of my favorite albums of all time, but this one bored me to tears. Pretty tinkling isn't enough to make an album. |
| Low Things We Lost in the Fire | 3.0 |
| It runs a little long to keep me interested... I wanted to love it but I just liked it. |
| True Widow As High As The Highest Heavens And From The Center | 2.0 |
| The instrumentals are SO LONG and boring I could barely sit through the first couple songs. You know I love some fuzzy guitars... but this was too much. |
| Sister Crayon Bellow | 1.5 |
| I listened to this because it was recommended for Chelsea Wolfe fans... but it was uninspiring. |
| Okkervil River Down the River of Golden Dreams | 3.5 |
| Camera Obscura Let's Get Out of This Country | 3.0 |
| It was just okay. I LOVE her voice... but something is missing. There isn't really an 'amazing' song on the album to bring it all together. |
| Chelsea Wolfe Unknown Rooms: A Collection of Acoustic Songs | 4.0 |
| I LOVE The Way We Used To... but a lot of the other songs just blended in. Maybe I'll listen to it again and change my rating... but for now this is about a 3.7. |

| I was initially a little nervous about it until I got to 'Over Now'... which may be one of my favorite break-up songs of all time. Loved. Second half is definitely much better than the first, but there is a lot of great potential here. I bet the next album will be a solid 4-4.5. |

| Tori Amos Little Earthquakes | 4.0 |
| Nico The End | 5.0 |
| From the opening line you KNOW that it's going to be amazing (and it is). The darkest piece of her career, and her best. A harmonium has never been put to better use. |

| It was okay... but not anything I feel like listening to again. |
| Ohbijou Metal Meets | 2.0 |
| Mount Eerie Ocean Roar | 1.5 |
| Tennis Young And Old | 4.5 |
| I, for one, don't understand all the flack that this album is getting. It's cute, airy, melodic, and catchy. No, it's not asking for the wall to get torn down, and no, it's not going to win the Pulitzer any time soon, but that's not the point. It's an early-fall romance; beautiful in its simplicity. |
| Tame Impala Innerspeaker | 1.5 |
| Sera Cahoone Deer Creek Canyon | 1.0 |
| The Postmarks The Postmarks | 3.0 |
| The Postmarks By The Numbers | 2.0 |
| I wanted to like it... I really did... but I found myself fading in and out of interest. Her voice is definitely pretty; the production is definitely cutesy; but it didn't sum up to much. Three Little Birds was an exception, but not enough of one to bring the rest of the album up. |
| Taken By Trees Other Worlds | 1.5 |
| I just was bored. Nothing (i.e. lyrics, production, mood) very exciting except (of course) her voice. Too bad. |
| Fleet Foxes Fleet Foxes | 1.5 |
| Mountain Man Made The Harbor | 3.5 |
| Death Cab for Cutie Narrow Stairs | 3.0 |
| I THOUGHT I loved this album... but the more that I listen to it... the more I have to conclude that most of the songs are corny or forgettable. Cath... and Bixby Canyon Bridge are great, but the album is dragged down by the middle and end. |
| Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water | 5.0 |
| 'Classic' is, really, the only word for it. Not a single bad track to be found, and some of the greatest songs of all time (I'm talking to you 'Boxer' and 'Bridge Over Troubled Waters'). Perfect. |

| The Kills No Wow | 3.0 |
| Small Black New Chain | 2.5 |
| Beach Fossils What A Pleasure | 2.5 |
| Uuummm... I have to admit that this is EXACTLY what I would classify as 'my type of music' (aka hazy/lazy vocals and fuzzy guitars)... but it was just missing something. I wasn't bored when listening, but I didn't feel the need to listen to it (ever) again. Lots of potential... but maybe next time. |

| Love. You know it's going to be 'good' after listening to Cuckoo, but then it smoothly transitions to 'great' after I Wrote In Blood, and 'excellent' after Demons. |
| Cut Off Your Hands Hollow | 2.0 |
| Bjork Homogenic | 3.5 |

| Trailer Trash Tracys Ester | 2.0 |
| I don't MIND the album (it's probably more like an 'average') but I have to give a lower rating because there was the POTENTIAL for a 4-4.5. If they could have done the entire album like 'Candy Girl' and 'Wish You Were Red' (i.e. strong bass melody with moody lyrics) then this would have been one of the best of the year. Instead its a hazy mess. Her voice is so unique and they buried under noise. |

| Either their best or their worst. Best: Zombie, Disappointment, Everything I Said, No Need To Argue, Daffodil Lament, Dreaming My Dreams, Ridiculous Thoughts. Absolute worst thing they've put out: Ode To My Family, Twenty One, I Can't Be With You, Yeat's Grave, The Icicle Melts, Empty. Overall, though, the strong easily overpower the weak and make their most ambitious and entertaining album. |
| The Cranberries Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? | 4.0 |
| Definitely a 90s standout. It has the same great voice and melodies as their later albums without falling victim to their sometimes corny lyrics. Love. |
| Nico The Marble Index | 1.5 |
| Nico Chelsea Girl | 2.0 |
| Nico Desertshore | 4.5 |
| Dark. Mysterious. Sexy. Perfect. Her untouchable masterpiece. |
| Britney Spears Oops!...I Did It Again | 3.0 |
| Britney Spears Britney | 2.0 |
| Britney Spears Femme Fatale | 2.5 |
| Britney Spears Circus | 3.0 |
| Britney Spears In The Zone | 5.0 |
| Britney Spears Blackout | 4.0 |
| Definitely her best album (not to mention the introduction of dub step into mainstream music). |
| The Shins Port of Morrow | 1.0 |
| The Shins Wincing the Night Away | 3.5 |
| Death Cab for Cutie Codes and Keys | 2.0 |
| Death Cab for Cutie Transatlanticism | 4.0 |
| I was originally (admittedly) a hater... but it's certainly grown on me. Their best after 'Photo Album'. |
| Death Cab for Cutie Plans | 2.0 |
| It's a strained comparison, but this is (to me) Death Cab's 'Out Of Time': Two of their best songs (Soul Meets Body and I Will Follow You Into The Dark), and the rest is just forgettable. Nothing truly offensive, but just too inconsistent for me. |
| Death Cab for Cutie The Photo Album | 4.5 |
| People can hate on them all they want... but they can never take away this masterpiece of barely-suppressed anger. Perfect. |
| The Antlers Burst Apart | 2.5 |
| The Antlers Hospice | 5.0 |
| Absolutely devastating. You can't listen to Kettering, Bear, and Epilogue without dying. |
| Best Coast The Only Place | 3.0 |
| Best Coast Crazy For You | 4.5 |
| This is the perfect example of an album that people want to hate so bad that they can't possibly look past its surface. Whatever. |
| Beach House Beach House | 5.0 |
| Beach House Teen Dream | 4.0 |
| I want to like this more because 'Silver Soul' and 'Used To Be' are two of my favorite songs, but there are just so many blah tracks on here. Too bad. |
| Beach House Devotion | 5.0 |
| One of my favorite albums of all time. Every song is great and flows smoothly into the next... definitely an 'album' and not a collection of songs. |
| Beach House Bloom | 3.0 |
