Does anyone else get an 80s synth vibe from this album? It's definitely an interesting sound, and it's an enjoyable album. I'm only listening through one long iTunes stream (sans separate tracks), but I haven't noticed any clear stand out singles. It doesn't mean this album is bad, far from it, but I didn't find myself clamouring to hear any songs again right away. |
Atoms for Peace Amok | 3.0 |
If you're a Thom Yorke fan, than this album is a must hear. This guy doesn't put out anything less than top notch work. However, having heard about this band years ago, I was expecting something less digital. I've been excited to hear what can happen when the robotic Thom teams up with the likes of the insane Flea. However, despite being a member of the band, I hear almost nothing resembling a real bass in this album. This is by no means to put the album down, but this is far from what I'd expect from a band. This is basically a Thom Yorke solo album. |

How to Destroy Angels An Omen | 3.5 |
This was a surprising follow up to the bands debut EP. It doesn't have the same high points as the first, the
tracks are generally less interesting then The Distance In Between andFur Lined from the first EP. But An Omen
is an overall better album, and a lot more interesting to listen to. The singer no longer sounds bored and
lifeless, the beats are a lot more detailed, and the overall tone, while still a downer, can actually be a little
lighthearted at times with the track like Ice Age and On a Wing and The Sleep of Reason. It still doesn't
compare to the work of NIN, but I think this is a sign of good faith that such work is on its way. |
The Smashing Pumpkins Machina/The Machines of God | 2.5 |
This album is a serious letdown. With the amazing opening track, and great second and third, I was really expecting to enjoy this. Well, I've listened to the album twice, and still nothing has ever stood out to me besides the aforementioned tracks. But with fifteen songs on the album, you'd really hope for more than three noticeable songs. I'll will try this again, I really want to like it, as I have the bands other work, but I'll have to wait till I have the patience to try it again. |
The Verve Urban Hymns | 4.0 |
A warm, rocking, album full of majestic tracks. With an amazing use of an orchestra string section (especially noticeable in the singles), each song manages to build itself into a grand finale, and the album is constantly bursting with drama and emotion. And yet it is still a solid rock album, any orchestral backing or effects only accentuate the core band, and none of it ever sounds sappy or weak, instead feeling quite epic and empowering. This is going into the permanent collection. |
Nine Inch Nails Purest Feeling | 2.0 |
This is an awful record. But it's true value is not really in it's listenability, definitely not that. It's really best as a peek into the creative process of making an album, and an early NIN one at at that. |

The Smashing Pumpkins Rotten Apples | 3.5 |
The Smashing Pumpkins Oceania | 4.0 |
I've only in the last few months started listening to The Smashing Pumpkins, but it's been a LONG time
coming. So taking a little detour, skipping from Adore to Oceania (as any listener should never do), there is a
certain amount of culture shock. It's a great deal different, going rockier in the ways of Mellon Collie and
Siamese Dreams, but also with an air of whimsy unseen from the band before, with light backing vocals and a
little synthetic glitter here and there. The sound may have evolved a little, but the music is just as epic,
beautiful, and as enjoyable as its always been. |
Cake Comfort Eagle | 4.0 |
It's always a little awkward listening to this album. With the flamboyant music (never missing a moment to utilize a horn section), and the monotone singer always off beat, with the weird intonation, and constantly straddling the line between singing and spoken word. However, despite all that, everything gels so well and meshes to make a great album. It's quirky and it's fun, and no matter what the hell a songs about, it always begs you to try and sing along. |
Cake Fashion Nugget | 3.0 |
Listening to this band is always an enjoyable experience. No matter how mediocre the song may be, the band always goes at it with full enthusiasm. While I can appreciate the band trying to move out into different genres, the results tend to be very hit or miss. While I think the country flavour works for Stickshifts And Safetybelts, it doesn't help as well on She'll Come Back To Me. This back and forth of hit and miss makes up the general experience of the album. It's not bad, not by any means, but certainly not the bands best. |
The Smashing Pumpkins Adore | 4.0 |
The first Smashing Pumpkins album I got into, and definitely my favourite. Adore takes big leaps in maturity
from the last couple albums, with the band no longer relying on heavier and heavier guitars to add drama and
power to each track. With most of the album on the slower side, the band really steps up with more powerful
lyrics, experimentation with digital beats to replace their missing drummer, and orchestrated music to make
each track as grandiose as their usual sound. It may not have as many popular singles, but this album
definitely has the more powerful. |
Foo Fighters Wasting Light | 3.5 |
Drake Take Care | 2.0 |
I really wanted to like this album, he's got an interesting voice, but most importantly, he doesn't just rap

I've become obsessed with this band over the last 4-5 months, their music is enjoyable, and has some bite to it. However, the newest album is too tame, there's no passion. I can forgive that there aren't as many loud moments as Swoon, but most of these songs have no recognizable tune, and overall, this album if forgettable. I agree that it's unfair to criticize the album for not having a compilation set like the first couple movie soundtracks, but I think it's a letdown. I feel like I'm doing something awful by writing this review, like I'm killing a newborn baby, supporting Hitler, or wishing cancer on someone.rWhile I think this has some the bands best work, overall the album is very uneven. Beautiful songs like Two of rUs and Across the universe are split by the mediocre Dig a Pony. Let it Be is lead in by the filler track Dig It, rI've got a Feeling by Maggie Mae, and The Long and Winding Road follows One After 909. And while I've never rbeen a fan of the rustic Get Back (I know that's weird) it's not preceded by anything good either. rWhile I'm sure many will disagree, I think this album is over-rated. |

Yes, the soundtrack fits the low-key tone of the movie to a tee. As a soundtrack it fits perfectly to the visuals with all it's dark and ominous tones. This of course, is the sole purpose of a soundtrack, and with that in mind, this soundtrack works wonders. But as an album, it fails to capture the subtle attitude present in The Social Network. The songs lack any real intrigue or interest, unlike The Social Network, there's nothing noticeable or even worth listening to. With that said, the song covers at the very beginning and end, recorded for the opening and closing credits are amazing. Karen O is in typical form, but Mariqueen Maandig needs a shout out. She sings with so much emotion, it's too bad she isn't like that on the How to Destroy Angel's albums. |

I have always argued that Revolver is my favourite Beatles album, but Abbey Road is the best (especially over the usual Sgt. Peppers). But strangely not a whole lot of people argue for Abbey Road, no one denies the albums greatness, but this album barely cracked Rolling Stones top 15 albums of all time. (Not that I agree with Rolling Stone on music taste after the 60s) For any band, this would be a great accomplishment, but when The Beatles make up half the top 10, it's a snub. The whole first half of the album is literally classic after classic, not a single weak track (that's right, I like Octopus' Garden!). And the second half is this amazing ramp up to what I can only describe as one of the best album finales of all time, each band member contributing a quick little solo followed by the quintessential Beatles' lyric, "And in the end/the love you take/ is equal to the love you make" |

All the track on this album are amazing, but almost all of them are too repetitive. Gorillaz finally got crushed under the weight of it's guest stars. The album lacks cohesion and suffers from mediocrity. I miss the good old fun, Gorillaz was designed as an escape where Damon can hide behind the cartoon band, but it seems like after two albums, this has become a full-fledged gig. Rather than try out whatever he couldn't do as a group, he's just created another one. But this time, they've got bloated members like Lou Reed. |

I was hoping this would be a remake of the original album, replacing all the synthetic electronic sounds with

and all their layers has been pretty well retuned. However, I'm not the best listener, and unless I compare each
track one by one, a lot of the remastering goes over my head. However, I do notice an unexplainable
improvement, and it's a great album, and I just reassigned the same rating as the original. |

Coming from the slightly off-kilter album, Clumsy, OLP manages to broaden their music while maintaining

It's a great album, yes, some of these tracks are timeless, but I've never been able to understand how this can
be considered the greatest album ever by so many people. The title tracks are pretty good, and I think they
serve as great openers and closers, not to mention as a lead in to A Day in the Life (a song I appreciate for its
intricacy and grandeur but have never truly cared for). When it comes to a few of the tracks Getting Better,
Fixing a Hole, Lovely Rita, and When I'm Sixty-Four, I've never seen any of these as more than filler. They're
good, but cannot compare at all with classics A Little Help, Lucy in the Sky, or Within you Without You. As far
as just plain good goes, I've always been a fan of She's Leaving Home (which is generally seen as a weaker
track), and have always been on the fence with Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite (which is almost always
relegated to Beatles classics). I see this album as a great Beatles record, but hardly classic. |

Jeff Buckley Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk | 4.5 |
This one is a tough one to rate. The first disc is a heavenly compilation of songs. They don't always flow well,
and some are vastly different than others, but they are still amazing songs.
Unfortunately for disc 2... sketches really is the best word to describe it. While a couple of tracks are gems,
even in their raw state, a lot of them needed more work, which will unfortunately never happen.
Still an essential Jeff Buckley listen, it's sad to think some of these disc 2 gems will never be perfected. |

Not only are they releasing the album without much warning, but they're also springing it out a day early.
Radiohead is really trying to kill the hype for this thing. And I see good reason, this is not what anyone would
have guessed from a Radiohead album, it's short, very rough, and almost indie sounding. It's a great album,
but for all the fans hoping for another Kid A, or even The Bends, this as far as possible from what they were
hoping for. |
Radiohead In Rainbows | 4.5 |
Radiohead Hail to the Thief | 4.0 |
For an album recorded in 2 weeks, this is pretty damn good. But than again, I think an extra couple of weeks could have helped this album. |
Radiohead Amnesiac | 3.0 |
It's meant to be a companion piece to Kid A, but I can't help but feel that this more of an afterthought album.
It feels like the best stuff was compiled for Kid A, and the rest were just released later on Amnesiac. There are
a few classic Radiohead tracks on here, but for the most part it's a pretty inferior collection of music. Instead
check out the Pyramid Song single and its B-Sides. |
Radiohead Kid A | 4.5 |
Radiohead OK Computer | 4.5 |
Queens of the Stone Age Era Vulgaris | 3.0 |
The albums sounds like a normal Queens album without the heart. It sounds fine and the singles are great. But as a fan in the long run, the only track I'd take with me beyond the album is Into the Hollow. |
Queens of the Stone Age Lullabies to Paralyze | 2.5 |
Queens of the Stone Age Songs for the Deaf | 5.0 |
Silversun Pickups Swoon | 5.0 |
Nine Inch Nails Pretty Hate Machine | 4.5 |
The lyrics for some of these songs are pretty embarrassing to listen to, and I'm really hoping to hear this album one day with a later-NIN rock sound. However, despite that, this is a very well crafted, precise- yet wild record. The album's bite is downplayed by the over-bearing 80's digital sound. but they're still very well layered and coordinated tracks. And the lyrics, despite sounding incredibly corny, actually come off feeling honest rather than stupid. You'll just never catch me singing in public, "I gave you my purity, and my purity you stole." |
