Frantic horns and sinister strings scream in and out of focus to great effect. To anyone who says that metal is the heaviest, darkest, most evil music out there, I recommend Doll Doll Doll. |

The album's quality is like a bathtub, with the high points being at either end and the middle dragging along the bottom. When giving your listeners a break, it's good to make it brief before kicking things off again. Instead Grizzly bear decided that the break needed to be 5 tracks long, which really hurts replayability. With that said, there are still a few really excellent moments here, and it's definitely worth a listen. I wouldn't be surprised to see it on quite a few "Best of 2012" lists. |

It's almost impossible to avoid banging your head to songs like "Riffwraith" and "Megaghost," which see both members violently shredding eardrums with speed and volume. Songs like "Mohawkwindmill" and "Bizarro Bike" have a more jammy feel, and could rival any modern tech metal bands in terms of sheer brain-fuckery. If you like having your head beaten in at a thousand miles per hour, give this record a spin. |
