As if Sci-Fi Crimes and North Corridor did the ol' fusion dance. Melodic and crushing. If this is how Pete writes with writer's block, idk. He seems like he could go forever, and we'll be grateful for it. Thanks Pete! (For those who shit on Chevelle for being "boring hard rock," just stop listening. They continue to play to the fan-base that got them to the show.)

Punch-you-in-your-stupid-face energy. Slide guitar/harmonica infusion. Better than ever sound production. Pitchfork gave this album a 5/10. All positives. Most of the album bleeds together into a same sound-y experience. That's what takes it down from a 5. Other than that, punishing and blues-y all at once, this album is exactly what the doctor ordered for your candy-ass.

Innovative in it's technique and sound, but limited in the same vein. Listening to this whole album all at once can be rchallenging, but it's still catchy as asshair. Seriously, danceable as shit. And I don't dance. Ultimately, to me , it misses the highest mark due to it's own inventiveness.

Anyone who likes hip-hop in the least should be able to appreciate this. The only thing that bugs
me about this album is that the vocals seem a tad low in the mix. This could've easily been
intentionally done, for the purpose of showcasing the music more than the lyrics. Although I don't
know why you'd do that for a lyricist like 65. Maybe the same reason you glitch out the last
minute or so of the album with audio clicks and CD scratches. Maybe cause you're just that
talented, Buck. Good one.

This is the sonic equiv to getting high on mushrooms and floating in your neighbour's pool while their away on vacation. An album that rests completely on the merits of its Boards Of Canada-type soundscapes, and astounding creativity. The drugged up atmosphere will make smoking weed and listening to music exactly the experience you were searching for ever since you first dipped your wick into that state of mind. Fantastic album, and the greatest thing to come out of that whole Anticon movement.

This might be the greatest hip-hop album I've ever heard. For any album to have 20+ songs, and keep consistency is impressive, but when not a single song is passable, when the entire journey is enjoyable, it surpasses all. One of the things about The Unseen that pops out on the first listen, and then reveals itself more and more with additional listens, is Madlib's sheer love of music. More jazz, reggae and hip-hop samples than one could shake a stick at, placed in all right places. This album alone brings Madlib up to a Cut Chemist-DJ Shadow-type caliber, without going into all of his beat collections & his works with DOOM and Gibbs and all that. All pieces in the right places, for all those who like to smoke, drink and listen to hip-hop, this is home. And if you don't... "you gonna feel like a damn fool laying out at that hospital dyin' from nothin'".
Deftones White Pony5.0
When Deftones separated themselves from everyone else coming out of the alt-metal scene of the late 90s. IMO they've only come close to reaching this peak a couple times since. A visceral experience that few bands can hold claim to providing.

Back to the REAL for Wu-Tang, after RZA finished up whatever the hell his debut album was (half hip-hop, half annoying experimental nonsense) he decided to go back to the classic boom-bap beats that made those albums from '93-'97 so classic. Femme Fatale is a must-listen for Wu fans.

I love this album and its electro-funk for the ADHD generation. Hits harder than Discovery (which I also love); where Discovery explores all things love, Homework is the initial dark portal/wormhole that brings you into the Daft Punk universe. This is a fantastic album. Leave Mine to Me rings louder now than ever. Tiny Voices brings those Punk-O-Matic nostalgia vibes. The Handshake is a classic Bad Religion cut, an all time best. Seemingly a reaction to the legal shutdown on sampling at the end of the 80's ad the beginning of the 90's, them Boys showed the world they didn't need to ride of the backs of samples (and the Dust Brothers) to prove they were and will always be one of the greatest acts to ever do it. Reinvention, for the second time, done so well you can't really complain (unless youse a bitch).
