Secret Band Secret Band3.5
"Secret Band's" first full length effort is an experience. From the killer riffage from the very reliable Will Swan, to
the blaring drumming from Matt Mingus, to Jon Mess's nonsensical lyricism and consistent howling. While far
from being consistent, and Jon Mess as a musician is somewhat of an acquired taste, "Secret Band" is a strange
beast that deserves to be listened to for all who know what they're getting themselves into.

The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There3.5
What would have been a wonderfully emotional record, 'Home, Like NoPlace Is There" is instead bogged down by an at time, terrible vocal performance that becomes too noticeable to ignore. The instrumentation is somewhat simple yet very effective however. While the end result left me rather mixed; I do recommend anybody interested to give this album a listen.

This album is just cringe worthy from start to finish
Woods of Desolation As the Stars3.5
the recording quality is bad but the emotion is amazing. oh wait it's black metal makes sense now duh
Sun Kil Moon Benji2.0
While I wouldn't call "Benji" a bad album, it's still a somewhat tepid album that gets to be rather repetitive quick.
While I can appreciate how personal "Benji" is, I just could not give a shit, a thought that really killed this for me.

A Lot Like Birds No Place4.5
"No Place" manages to dive deep with me, even on its sheer concept alone. As someone who struggles with connection, especially to a place called home do to my somewhat mobile childhood, A Lot Like Bird's third LP is rather relatable to me, as the entire album is about the struggles of home. It also helps that musically A Lot Like Birds does nothing but impress.

Acceptance Speech doesn't have the greatest production ever. Acceptance Speech doesn't have the greatest lyrics. But that is okay, as the Sacramento-based group's 5th full length is still a rather enjoyable record.

If I had to describe this record in one word, that word would be "lame". There is just something about Lightbulb Sun that comes across as almost "childish" in the worst way possible. Yes, this album has really subpar production. And Yes, this album can be downright immature, but there's something about New Found Glory's first album that I can't help but enjoy. While the production is still iffy, it also gives "Nothing Gold Can Stay" a nice raw vibe to it; plus this is just a catchy as hell record. A fine start to a band that ended up being poster boys for their genre.

Deftones Around the Fur3.5
Around the Fur showcases a band who are starting to realize their true potential. While still rholding on to the nu-metal sound they helped create, Deftones add so much more to, distinguishing rthemselves from the other groups. Featuring improved songwriting and a glimpse at their eventual ratmospheric sound, Around the Fur is an early highlight of a band that's full of them.

Deftones Adrenaline3.5
Despite being a key album in the infamous "nu-metal" sub-genre that annoyed the ears of many in the late 90's to early 2000's, Deftones humble debut "Adrenaline" still demands to be heard. Featuring a raw and rather angry sound, in addition to Chino's fitting rap-like vocal style. However as it IS the bands first release, Adrenaline sounds rather underdeveloped at times. An overall solid beginning for a group that's going to end up being so much more.

Faith No More King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime4.5
Faith No More crafted an album that cannot be pigeon-holed into one specif genre, instead hopping from the bands typical Alt. Metal, Country, Jazz, and countless others. A masterpiece to this Pencil's eyes if I do say so myself.
