So let's get started with the review. 1. Stillmatic (The Intro): Great song where Nas freestyles. 5/5 2. Ether: The song where Nas viciously destroys Jay-Z, and is the best diss track of all time. 5/5 3. Got Ur Self A Gun: Great song with a great beat, where Nas showcases his lyrical ability. 4/5 4. Smokin: One of the weakest songs on the album, which talks about smoking, but it isn't bad. 3.5/5 5. You're Da Man: Great song with great production by Large Proffesor, who we have come to expect great beats from. 5/5 6. Rewind: A genius song where Nas tells a story backwards, where it starts at the end, and ends at the beginning, with a great beat by Large Professor. 5/5 7. One Mic: Now we have come to the best song on Stillmatic, and one of the best Nas songs in general. 5/5 8. 2nd Childhood: Another great song, this is the only song on Stillmatic produced by DJ Premier 5/5 9. Destroy and Rebuild: Another great diss track, in which Nas disses Cormega, and Nature, and theres an interpretation of The Bridge Is Over in the chorus. 5/5 10. The Flyest: A great collaboration with AZ. 5/5 11. Braveheart Party: Nas is good in this song, but the Bravehearts suck, the worst song on Stillmatic. 3/5 12. Rule: One of the weakest songs on this album. 3.5/5 13. My Country: After the album slowly fell down, it came back up with this song. 5/5 14. What Goes Around: Another great song. 5/5 15. Every Ghetto: Great way to finish the album. 5/5 Pros: Great lyrics Great beats Great storytelling Cons: Not enough DJ Premier Not enough Large Professor Bottom line is, Nas is the best he's been since Illmatic.Wu-Tang Clan Iron Flag4.0De La Soul AOI: Bionix4.5Busta Rhymes Genesis4.0Ludacris Word Of Mouf4.0Ghostface Killah Bulletproof Wallets3.5Ras Kass Van Gogh4.0DMX The Great Depression3.0Masta Ace Disposable Arts5.0Immortal Technique Revolutionary Volume 14.0Jay-Z The Blueprint5.0RZA Digital Bullet4.0AZ 9 Lives3.0Kool Keith Spankmaster2.0Redman Malpractice3.5Missy Elliott Miss E… So Addictive4.5KRS-One The Sneak Attack4.02000 Lil Wayne Lights Out3.0Wu-Tang Clan The W4.5OutKast Stankonia5.0Jay-Z The Dynasty: Roc La Familia3.0Ludacris Back For The First Time3.0Reflection Eternal Train of Thought5.0M.O.P. Helter Skelter3.0Nas It Was Written4.0Another album that put Nas on the map. Alot of people say that this album was average, or that it is too mainstream, but that is not true. Another thing that people judge this album for, is that the mafioso concept doesn't work, but that isn't true either, Nas does that very well. Anyways, lets get started with the track by track review. 1. Album Intro: Just an intro. 2. The Message: Just like Illmatic, It Was Written starts with the best song. This song has great storytelling, and great production by the Trackmasters, and a great chorus, which uses samples from previous Nas songs. This is one of Nas best songs. 5/5 3. Street Dreams: Another great song produced by the Trackmasters. One of the best songs on this album, and one of the best Nas songs in general. 5/5 4. I Gave You Power: Another standout track on this album, in which Nas personifies a gun, in a brilliant way. Unfortunately, this is the only song on It Was Written that is produced by DJ Premier. 5/5 5. Watch Dem Niggas: Another standout produced by the Trackmasters, this one has Foxy Brown, who delivers an outstanding lyrical performance as well. 4/5 6. Take It In Blood: Another classic track, with an outstanding lyrical performance by Nas. 5/5 7. Nas Is Coming: A song meant to squash the east coast vs west coast beef by having Dr Dre produce for it. This is another gem. 5/5 8. Affirmative Action: Another great song. This song has the Firm, and shows their best performance together, although it has the infamous math problem fail by Foxy Brown, it's still a great song. 4/5 9. The Set Up: A great song with Nas and Havoc, and great production by Havoc as well. 5/5 10. Black Girl Lost: Another great song 4/5 11. Suspect: Another great song. 4/5 12. Shootouts: Another great song. 5/5 13. Live Nigga Rap: An outstanding lyrical performance by Nas and Mobb Deep. 5/5 14. If I Ruled The World: One of the best songs on this album, and one of the best Nas songs in general. 5/5 Pros: Great lyrics Great guest performances Cons: Not enough DJ Premier No Large Proffesor Bottom line is, although this is nowhere near Illmatic, it's still a great album.Dr. Octagon Dr. Octagonecologyst5.01995 Goodie Mob Soul Food5.0GZA Liquid Swords5.0The Pharcyde Labcabincalifornia4.5Tha Dogg Pound Dogg Food4.0Cypress Hill Cypress Hill III: Temples of Boom4.0KRS-One KRS-One4.0AZ Doe or Die5.0Kool G Rap 4, 5, 64.0Raekwon Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...5.0Bone Thugs-N-Harmony E 1999 Eternal5.0Masta Ace Sittin' on Chrome5.0Mobb Deep The Infamous5.0Ol' Dirty Bastard Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version4.0Big L Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous5.02Pac Me Against the World5.0The Roots Do You Want More?!!!??!5.0Smif-N-Wessun Dah Shinin'5.01994 Redman Dare Iz A Darkside4.0Method Man Tical4.0Pete Rock and CL Smooth The Main Ingredient4.0Artifacts Between A Rock and A Hard Place5.0Common Resurrection5.0Scarface The Diary5.0UGK Super Tight...4.0Organized Konfusion Stress: The Extinction Agenda4.5Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Creepin On Ah Come Up5.0Jeru the Damaja The Sun Rises in the East5.0OutKast Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik5.0Nas Illmatic5.0Illmatic was Nas big breakthrough, considered to be the greatest hip-hop album of all time by many (including myself). This is one of the hip-hop albums that put the east coast on the map, along with Ready To Die, and 36 Chambers. So lets get started with the review, track by track. 1. The Genesis: A really good way to start an album, but I can't really rate it because it isn't a song. 2. NY State of Mind: This song is the best song on this album, and the best overall Nas song. It tells a story about being in New York, and the first verse tells a brilliant story. Definitely classic with a great beat by DJ Premier. One of the best songs DJ Premier has produced for. 5/5 3. Life's A Bitch: Another classic song, this one has AZ, with his best verse ever. This song talks about living life while you can, as AZ says in the chorus, and is brilliant. 5/5 4. The World Is Yours: This song is another one of the best songs by Nas. If you have Tony Hawk's Underground than you have most likely heard this legendary song. This song also has a legendary beat done by Pete Rock, who also does the chorus. One of the best songs Pete Rock has produced, along with T.R.O.Y 5/5 5. Halftime: Another one of the best songs by Nas, with a legendary beat by Large Professor, and legendary lyrics by Nas. This is the best song Large Professor has produced for. 5/5 6. Memory Lane (Sittin In Da Park): Another masterpiece produced by DJ Premier, with a great beat, and legendary lyrics, and great storytellling. 5/5 7. One Love: This is one of the weakest songs on Illmatic, but it is still a masterpiece with a great beat by Q-Tip. 5/5 8. One Time 4 Your Mind: This is the weakest song on Illmatic, but it's still a masterpiece with a great beat by Large Professor. 5/5 9. Represent: Another gem produced by DJ Premier (notice a pattern?). With a great beat, and legendary lyrics, how can you go wrong with this song? 5/5 10. It Ain't Hard To Tell: What a way to finish an album! Great lyrics, one of the best songs Large Professor has produced for as well. 5/5 Pros: Great lyrics Great beats All songs are classic There are no cons.Main Source Fuck What You Think4.0Gang Starr Hard to Earn5.0The Notorious B.I.G. Ready to Die5.0This album, by one of the best ever, put the east side of hip-hop on the map, and just put hip-hop on the map in general. This album showcases Biggies lyrical ability to be able to put comedy, raw lyrics, and storytelling all in the same song. This album has songs for any mood that you're in. This album contains stories of harsh street life. Ready To Die is the greatest album, by one of the greatest ever, that explains alot. 1. Intro: An interesting way to begin an album, it begins the theme of the album, it has him being born. Can't really rate it though since it's just an intro. 2. Things Done Changed: The album kicks off with one of the best songs by Biggie, which tells a story about life, with a great chorus, containing great samples. 5/5 3. Gimmie The Loot: Another great song. This one tells a story about robbing in an amazing way. He does the voice of two people in the way the Beastie Boys do, truly outstanding song. It also utilizes sampling in a great way. 5/5 4. Machine Gun Funk: Another song that truly shows Biggies skill, and samples Chief Rocka by Lords of The Underground in a brilliant way. 5/5 5. Warning: A great song, with great storytelling. 5/5 6. Ready To Die: The best album title song of all time, with great song. 5/5 7. One More Chance: A funny song, dedicated to the women, and you'll find a sample of Mind Playing Tricks On Me in there. 5/5 8. F*** Me: Skit. 9. The What: Two of the greatest ever going back and forth on the same track over a great beat. 5/5 10. Juicy: The best biggie song, and the most upbeat song on the album, Biggie raps about how hard it was growing up. 5/5 11. Everyday Struggle: One of the best songs by Biggie. 5/5 12. Me and My Bitch: Another song for the women. 5/5 13. Big Poppa: The best song for the women by Biggie. 5/5 14. Respect: Great chorus, with great lyrics. 5/5 15. Friend of Mine: The weakest song on the album, but still classic. 5/5 16. Unbelievable: One of the best Biggie songs of all time, with great production. 5/5 17. Suicidal Thoughts: What a great way to end an album. The album ends like it begins, with a heartbeat 5/5 Pros: Great lyrics Great beats.
