Unfathoms Rogue5.0
Will get a link for this soon - for now you all will have to gawk at my musical self-importance.
Concept: A whirlwind take on confusion, regret, and whimsy - amounting to the realization of how complicated the human mind is, through tropical, world-inspired "avant-garde" noise (pop).
Genres: Noise (pop), world (pop), electronic.
Special thanks to Enrique (bailar11, to be more specific) for listening to demos and to anyone else on sputnik who let me know of what was and was not a mistake on my part - you know who you are.

One of the architects behind retro-futurism destroys the very idea, as Lindstrom has officially attacked his new age, disco sound (without straying too far from home of course).

Alesana The Emptiness1.5
Alesana have most definitely improved on The Emptiness, but they are still pretty fucking terrible. Granted, the high pitched voice is somewhat apt on the verses of "The Thespian", and the musicianship contains more depth and technicality.m However, the tracks are still boring as all hell; the growled vocals are absolutely terrible, terrible, terrible; and there's no artistic merit on this album.
Also it's pretentious (yes Alesana can do that.)

Animal Collective Merriweather Post Pavilion1.5
When reading a review describing Animal Collectives sound as (I quote) "an amalgamation of campfire songs and LSD, I was immediately intrigued. And though intrigue may help a listener, this album fucking sucks without it. Despire many people's claims, Animal Collective is not catchy, versatile, or ingenius. "Lion In A Coma", though the album's best song, is homogenous and forgettable, as are all of the other songs on this record. The way Animal Collective toys with textures provides this effect, as the band refuses to stray from the "wall-of-sound" technique for even a minute, thus reducing its effect. And rather than accentuating this album's positive points, it forces them to drown in an undying fugue of noise. A component of this noise is the faux-exoticism that ceases to go the fuck away on this album. The sounds of "My Gurls" are ridiculous, and the trump on "Lion in a Coma" is used without much effect other than annoyance. The same applies to the constantly pulsating basslines, the poorly executed electronics, and stagnant melodies. Disparity is nonexistent. Homogeny is constant (I mean when you use 20+ instruments for each track without variation and do the same for textures, what do you expect. And none of the folk-pop "anthems" are memorable at all. Forever imprinted on my brain are the words "Avoid at all costs."

Sparks The Rescue Eyes to the Sun3.0
Sparks the Rescue have everything that it takes to be successful within the absolutepunk.net scene. All the good makings of a pop-punk band (catchy choruses, some flairs of technicality, etc.), and a video that's just a little too reminiscent of one of Thursday's. Eyes To The Sun will do nothing to change that, or the state of the genre. But fuck, it's guilty pleasure material, isn't it?

Quest For Blood Quest for Blood with Yukihiro Isso5.0
Quest For Blood, a nearly unclassifiable metal band with black metal, neoclassical, and noise roots, has released a masterpeice. Toying with density, all things vanguard, some extremely wtf flute skills and creating a new genre altogether, Quest for Blood with Yukihiro Isso is one of the best metal albums to be released in the past couple thousand decades.

Epic, claustrophobic and avant-garde, Azure Emote's electronicized death metal album impresses on nearly all counts. But some of the death metal sects are a tad off, awkward pig squeals and such feel haphazard. But the textural nuances are enough to make this album somewhat enjoyable, let alone the creative use of disco, acoustic, and electronic music throughout.

William Basinski The Disintegration Loops I5.0
This ambient album is what the earth would sound like if it was able to subdue its denizens with infinite knowledge and understanding. Each note here has been saturated in character and finesse to the point where evocation is undeniable, and each listening experience is unique. Every listen however does reveal an odd paradox: when listening to the album, a morose feeling is exuded, yet an uplifting quality is produced. Perhaps it is the fact that one can feel such sadness that makes them feel this way? Whatever is the case, it is phenomenal knowing that this minimalist collection of songs is able to produce such an effect. Though very lengthy, Basinski shows his genius with tasteful subtlely. Oftentimes utilizing bare-bones piano notes and cello arrangements, his songs are extremely lengthy, relaxing, and enjoyable. With each press of a key, a reverberating sound is sent throughout the air, oftentimes repeating its call to those who are lucky enough to hear it, and dying as it does so. Yet, I highly doubt that this album will die anytime soon, as it is the essence of life, originality, and music.

Saetia A Retrospective3.0
While those who lack indie cred jump on Saetia's bandwagon, a few thoughts come to my mind, nay, misconceptions of the misinformed, impressionable twit. For starters, Saetia did not define the genre of screamo, let alone emo (yes, the genres are different in the way that emo is less intense than screamo). Indian Summer, I Hate Myself, and many other bands played this sound in a far more exceptional manner than that of Saetia. Second, though sometimes caustic, the lyrical stylings of Saetia as well as some of the music, hit trite moments. Example A: "Roquentin" and several other tracks are just entirely placid attempts at angular dissonance. As well as impotent, these songs are contradictory to their genre. Forced emotion isn't emotion, its fucking pathetic. Third, Billy Werner was nothing new in the vocal department. Moans, squeals, and spoken word segments have been used since the mid-80's. The same goes for the balance of chaos and beauty. Sadly it is these flaws that do not allow for a phenomenal screamo album. Yet, there is immense potential. "Some Natures Catch No Plagues" is an interesting take on evocation. Similarly, "Notres Langues Nous Trompent" is an energetic track, expressing frustration adeptly. And "Venus And Bacchus" is a fun, if repetitive track. Though many other tracks are also great, there are so ver many flaws.

This album lacks the idiosyncrasies that Slow Riot For Zero Kanada, but there's still the ever-present climax, the tranquil strings, and the mighty evocative trumpet. Basically, though not a classic, this album still keeps up Godspeed You! Black Emperor's almighty repuation as GOz OF DUH POS ROK.

By taking a surprising amount of grindcore influence and combining it with several emo aspects, LLBNF creates an album of angular bliss. Yet, nothing is groundbreaking or new, a flaw that rears its ugly head more than once. But still... the drumming kicks major amounts of ass (see: Means To No End and Loathing)

For most, John Zorn's opus Naked City will be a sort of extra-terrestrial glance into the experimental realm that is Zorn's mind; however, to those that can appreciate the irrational jazz and hostile grindcore mash that is this album, it seems like a near-masterpiece.
