Travis Scott and Quavo Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho | 2.5 |
Similar to the album art, everything on this bar maybe two songs feel like it was whipped up
within an hour or so. Every beat is so dull and Quavo and Travis sound as formulaic as ever
with the only standouts being Moon Rock and Best Man. However, Quavo's parts on Best Man
could easily fit in on a Lil Uzi Vert project, which says enough for how boring he is here. |

It's always a shame when the bonus track is the best track on the album. It does everything the rest of the album tries to do: hard hitting techno with delightful build up and surprisingly well thought out progression with twists and turns. In contrast, the first two tracks fail to stand out in any form other than having a thumping beat that doesn't really go anywhere. Beyond this, Manic is an interesting track which does far more with itself but suffers from meandering into repetition and becoming a little stale. Still worth a listen though but more of Black Hole would be best course of action. 3.1/5 |

alt-J This Is All Yours | 3.0 |
After hearing the first few singles, it sounded like this album was going to be inconsistent with out of place songs. I couldn't be more wrong. I cannot stress how much better this sounds as a whole rather than listened to individually. That being said, its shortcommings are still prevalent, and there's no point pretending that they don't exist. For one, there's nothing enthralling about this... at all. it doesn't have the same charm or layered aesthetic found in the first album. The overall theme of a journey is nice, but if that's the case, Miley Cyrus does nothing but sound out of place. Even if the album is disappointing as a whole, the first 4 songs are what classic Alt-J are all about. It crafts everything we love from their debut, plus more into a cohesive 15 minute spectacular building and building until Every Other Freckle. it's a shame the rest of the songs after exist, because if it ended there, it could easily have been EP of the year |

I refuse to compromise just because this is Opeth. The direction that the band are going in is promising and exciting too, but one can't help but think that this will obviously lead to them trying some styles that just doesn't work for them. The acepella within Moon feels awkward and out of place whilst the cringe worthy happiness of River simply feels plastic and fake. The ideas in this album simply don't work and is beyond anything special or interesting. |

Although Country is something of an acquired taste these days, this works very well. The atmosphere and the reverb heavy production really brings this record to life and makes it feel isolated yet vast. The vocal execution is nothing short of mesmerising, however it when listening to the whole album, it would seem that many tracks do not stand far apart from each other. It does have some fairly bland moments but this is definitely one of the more innovative albums this year |

The album cover is a picture from a mental institute, with no effects added onto it. The photo resembles this ralbums perfectly; a land that's dark, brooding and hopeless. Simply from listening to the opening notes, rit's clear that this album resonates an atmosphere of desolation with dissonant polyrhythms before bursting rto full throttle with the opener. Much of this follows the same path: a consistent, sometimes terrifying and rdepressing experience all the way until the dying notes scream "why have you left me here?". It's astonishing rwhat Thantifaxath has created on a whole and a single note doesn't feel misplaced or unnecessary. Possibly rthe only negative of this is how the ambient track, "Eternally Falling", drags on for longer than it should, rhowever, it still plays an integral part to the albums flawless flow and feel. It's safe to say that the album taps rinto some of the more desperate human emotions of depressing and aggressiveness. However, there is no rsympathy here, simply a void of where optimism used to be. Just like the album cover suggests, they're all rjust voices in my head. |

For an album that starts off so well, it really does lose its steam later. The first 3 songs do a good job of shaping it into a more raw and experimental album that DG have never done before. However, the imminent flaw is that the other 2/3rds of the album don't even sound like actual songs. It's not that these instrumentals are inherently bad, they just lack anything special, which limits the albums potential. However, it's difficult to deny that this has some of their best work |

Tigran Hamasyan Shadow Theater | 3.5 |
A rather eccentric blend of influences all under the name of jazz and done well. With piano and vocals mostly dominating, this album finds ways to be haunting, soothing and sometimes even ethereal whilst keeping their sound very lush and relaxing. Whilst this is crammed with wonderful ideas, it sometimes feels that not everything Tigran did came off as well as he hoped. Particularly on some of the more minimal tracks, it feels as if Tigran tries too hard to be beautiful and atmospheric, despite being neither at times. Overall, this was a very fun listen, which takes an interesting modern twist on jazz anyone could appreciate. 3.7/5 |
