This doesn't really sound like black metal to me. More like melodic death. Folky
guitars/recorders/fiddles adorn adept and cleanly-produced metal. Or else comprise entire
tracks.
Seems kind of upbeat. Some interesting guitar work (solos etc.) but the songs overall are
lacking a bit in memorability. |

This didn't stand out to me at first but grew on me quite a bit. There are lots of intricate details in each song. The vocals are perhaps a weak point in terms of variety, although it sounds good. Also could criticize the overall sameness in their sound going back a number of years now.

This is similar in quality to their Paper Tigers album. I appreciate that each song has character, even if a few are a bit silly, and a few I like a lot. Many bands sound good, but few actually write interesting songs. Common comments about this band apply to this release, for me primarily relating to the lyrics. The songs are fun and catchy which is no mean feat in this world. But the lyrics are sometimes embarrassing. And the raw sound can drag if you listen too long. Mixing the best from here with the best from Paper Tigers results in an excellent set of songs. |

Witchery... I always thought they had a lot of potential and they seem to finally fulfill that here. At least for what I wanted out of them. Angry and driving, clean production but deep and buzzing, infectious lyrical moments, songs with structural variety, technicality and musicality. Above all: not boring! At least a 4. |
