5.0 classic
A Tribe Called Quest The Low End Theory
Black Thread Meadowlark (Premonition)
Is this the same black thread that put out all those sloppy tape loop constructions on turmeric magnitudes??? It couldn't be... I mean, this is way too well constructed, not falling apart and starting over again like many of their other works. It's as though he/she/they actually constructed this, instead of just experimenting and using what fit.

I don't know why, and may never know why, this 33 minute piece from what could be otherwise described as an amateur project has such emotional resonance with me. I can't really justify the reason that I have listened to this 80 + times... I just can't. It doesn't do anything outlandish; it's literally layers of loops repeating themselves into infinity. Still, it does create a feeling not dissimilar to the effects of a barbiturate or other strong painkiller; creating a sense of detachment, and more specifically, for me, the feeling of being at the bottom of a 10-foot deep hole with a warm, fuzzy blanket over my head.... A feeling no other piece has effectively recreated.

Even though almost entirely unremarkable musically, somehow this piece has the ability to be a weekly listen in my household. I know this, and, at the same time, know that black thread will never top this; won't even come close, but this part of their prolific catalogue, by fluke or no, will remain a classic to me until the day I die...

tl;dr Hardest 5 I ever gave, even though I cannot justify it...

So close to a 5 but every time I think of giving it that extra .5 something holds me back... Not sure whether it's the
vocals, that one song that doesn't live up to the rest, or merely an externality that I cannot, even for all my trying,
qualify, no matter how hard I try. It's probably apt when all's considered, for this album, and every reason, is not
without flaw (as with all things), however, it seems that maybe next time my mind will change, and I must listen to
this again (and Red and Blue Jeans another 50 times); even though I know my mind will not change. It's not that I
know my mind won't change because I know what's holding me back, but more of a strange knowing, that for
every time I listen and re-listen, something that I cannot explain makes me hold back... Maybe it's just that I've
heard this before, somewhere else, in a different time, where I was able to appreciate it fully, even for it's
numerous flaws and faults.

It is these faults; these minor imperfections, and the peculiarly personal delivery of these songs, that, in a way,
remind me of myself; although infinitely superior to myself and anything I will ever create. Maybe I'm jealous of
this album; jealous that it's the portrayal of a person I wish was myself....

Maybe this is all just strange irrationality and I should leave it that way. Maybe I can listen to Red and Blue Jeans
on repeat for the rest of my life and forget this that ails me so......

The fact that I've listened to perfect skies 135 times more than any other track on here probably says that this is lopsided, and while that may be the case (let's be honest, friendzone's tracks > the rest...), that is not to say that this is inconsistent or poor in any way. Instead this should say that this is not bad, but that perfect skies is a fuckin jam.
Mare Cognitum The Sea Which Has Become Known
Mechanical Elephant Audio Side A & Side B
The album cover signifies the albums message and theme, however disturbing and perverse it may be. Side A & Side B painful to listen to, almost torturous at times, draws the listener in; immersing them in the low-end rumbles and penetrating feedback throughout. This would be a normal noise-ambient release; be it not for the samples of disgusting, depraved porn (the sounds of a girl/woman almost choking on a dick for 28 minutes) that dominate the recording. However, these samples only add to the disturbing piece that MEA have created with Side A & Side B.

Solid release from grunt, but not as good as Seer of Decay or Terror and Degeneration. Good variation throughout; keeping the power electronics genre alive.
Gulaggh Vorkuta
An album that thrives on dissonance and practical unlistenability. Although more(?) accessible than their works with Stallagh (not a hard task), Vorkuta is still a pain/struggle to sit through. You are greeted with grainy samples, atonal and dissonant classical instruments (violins, etc.) and almost demonic howls of (supposedly) mentally disturbed women and children.

Listen at your peril (or wish).

Swans try to craft something new and "abrasive" with the seer, but end up creating an aimless, sprawling, and pretentious disappointment of an album. The Browning Burn This World
The Browning don't write lyrics, they write philosophical doctrines and dissertations. Some are so brilliant they transcend the understanding of the modern plebeian lifeform (otherwise known as a human). Passages such as:

"Be proud of who you are. Be yourself and you'll reach the stars.
Don't pretend to be something you're not,be proud of who you are!
Be proud of who you are!"

"There is no escape
There is no escape
No escape
No escape"

Create meaning beyond the understanding of the normal human mind. Thankfully with my IQ of 270 I can decode and describe these metaphors with relative ease.

These metaphors actually describe the complexities of travelling through the space-time continuum as well as how it feels to know that your existence is futile. This is pure literary genius at it's finest.
