| Zelia Duncan Eu me Transformo em Outras |
A 2?! Not sure what this Samuel Cooke was thinking (surely he must be xenophobic or
something?). It is not an understatement to say that Zelia Duncan's Eu me Transformo em
Outras may be Brazilian music at its best, up there with the likes of Joao Gilberto and
Caetano Veloso. Her rich, expressive and soulful vocals carry a high level of sophistication
as well as heartfelt emotional prowess, and the strictly acoustic instrumentation does
nothing but amplify that. Perfecting intonation and timbre, Duncan goes from singing jazzy
ballads in her far reaching lower range to infectious pop songs in her middle/upper range,
all while retaining a distinctly Brazilian identity. What a fantastic set of tunes. |
