Just one of those magical albums where everything works. Brian Wilson was an absolute genius.

Mastodon Blood Mountain
My personal favorite Mastodon album, perfect blend of prog and metal with this one, and a good consistency despite variety.
Mastodon Crack the Skye
Meshuggah Koloss
This is the best album in a long while, pretty consistent overall, and it's certainly leagues ahead of ObZen. "The Demon's Name Is Surveillance" may be my favorite single song since Stengah. Really digging everything about this album.

Mastodon Remission
Decent debut, some Mastodon classics (Mother Puncher, Where Strides the Behemoth) and some boring filler. They improved a great deal after this one.
Mastodon The Hunter
Decent album, but nowhere near their last few. A little inconsistent (Curl of the Burl is horrid, The Creature Lives is good for two novelty listens) but there's still some great stuff here. A few too many clean, radio-friendly choruses for my taste though, which has me worried for the future. Still, a great variety here, just not as heavy or cohesive as past work.

Good material hurt by some poor live vocals. Worth a listen and rare revisit, mostly because of the older tracks at the end.

Zechs Marquise Our Delicate Stranded Nightmare
Too much noise, not enough anything else. Some tracks create a nice atmosphere, and some do absolutely nothing other than bore for what seems like forever.

1.5 very poor
The Mars Volta Noctourniquet
I don't get this album at all, and I'm a huge TMV fan. They take from the Taylor Swift playbook with "Empty Vessels", which is their worst song to date, and there's no really great moments. Lots of repetition within songs and irritatingly boring synths make this a hard listen. Lapochka blows too.
Weezer Raditude

1.0 awful
