AC/DC If You Want Blood You've Got It
The greatest live album of all time. This captures AC/DC at their peak, when Bon Scott was
fronting the band and really captures the experience of an AC/DC live show when they were at
the height of their career
Alice in Chains Jar of Flies
Alice in Chains Black Gives Way to Blue
One of the best comebacks ever, the only point at which it falls flat is take her out, but otherwise it's perfect
Anathema We're Here Because We're Here
stunning and beautiful as well as intense and highly emotional, absolutely incredible
Anathema Weather Systems
Avenged Sevenfold Waking the Fallen
This was the band's masterpiece. It's an epic journey through a whole host of different styles, featuring blistering guitar solos, epic songs, tons of atmosphere and better vocals than on their more recent albums. This is possibly the definitive metalcore album. While other bands at the time were happy to stick to the template laid out for the genre, A7X decided to go one step further, and produce a metalcore album that has true class
Blind Guardian Nightfall in Middle-Earth
the ultimate album from the ultimate power metal band
Carcass Heartwork
Cryptopsy None So Vile
Cynic Traced in Air
Death The Sound of Perseverance
Death got better and better throughout their career and improved with each album and this is their strongest overall. The most technical, progressive, diverse, dark, evil and indeed interesting album the band released. It is perfect

Gustav Holst The Planets, Op. 32
Hans Zimmer The Simpsons Movie: The Music
Howard Shore The Fellowship of the Ring: The Complete Recording
Howard Shore The Two Towers: The Complete Recordings
Iron Maiden Powerslave
This was their strongest yet. Everything that was good about Maiden was made even better, from catchy riffs and choruses, brilliant solos and more complex songs. One of Maiden's best
Iron Maiden Somewhere in Time
Maiden's most underrated album, and my second favourite by them. Every song, from epic opener caught somewhere in time to the winding closer Alexander the great(even De-ja vu) is fantastic. It is executed gracefully and the album features some tasteful experimentation with synthesisers
Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast
Iron Maiden Brave New World
Iron Maiden Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
This could be the greatest Metal album of all time. It's certaintly Maiden's best. The concept was genius and was executed perfectly and the band stay away from the cringe worthy lyrics of some of their other albums. The performances were the best yet. Guitar synthesisers were utilized in a more tasteful manner than on somewhere in time and the song writing was flawless. Another perfect album.
Iron Maiden Rock in Rio (DVD)
Iron Maiden Live After Death (DVD)
Iron Maiden Flight 666 (DVD)
A must see for Maiden fans really, some really defining moments, for example the guy who catches Nicko's drum sticks and is in tears of happiness
Iron Maiden Death on the Road (DVD)
Jeff Buckley Grace
Killswitch Engage Alive or Just Breathing
The style that so many bands at the moment are copying was basically invented by Killswitch engage. This is a perfect album from start to finish. Breakdowns are employed tastefully, the songs are great and Jesse Leach is possibly the best vocalist in modern metal
King Diamond Abigail
Lower Than Atlantis Far Q
A very strong debut from an interesting young British band. A combination of post hardcore, punk rock and grunge. Very English. The vocals are distinctive and the lyrics relatable. This is a band who are worthy of your attention and will no doubt do great things in the future. One of the best albums of 2010
Ludwig van Beethoven "Moonlight" Piano Sonata No. 14 in C♯ minor, Op. 27, No. 2
Machine Head The Blackening
Is this the metal album of the decade? you better believe it!
Manic Street Preachers Everything Must Go
Manic Street Preachers The Holy Bible
Marillion Script for a Jester's Tear
Mastodon Crack the Skye
Megadeth Rust in Peace
This is one of the greatest thrash albums ever. Megadeth were light years ahead of every other band in the genre. They had advanced into a more technical, progressive and a heavier band, who took already brilliant songs to the next level with stunning solos and complex structures. The production is stunning too, everything is so sharp and precise and it really suits the nature of the album itself. Metallica may have been winning the commercial war, but musically Megadeth were way ahead of the game
Muse Origin of Symmetry
It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that this one of the most vital rock albums of the last decade. Muse decided to create their own sound, one driven by the melodicism of classical music, high distortion rock, tasteful electronic elements and the most eccentric frontman in modern rock. It's pretty much perfect and i am seriously excited at the thought of them playing this in it's entirety at reading this year!
Nick Drake Pink Moon
To say that this is the greatest album ever made would be probably the single greatest understatement I'd be likely to make in my life. Best...album...ever!

Triptykon Eparistera Daimones
This more than makes up for Cold lake. Best album of 2010. This is depressingly heavy and
disturbingly dark, like a steamroller crushing everything in it's path with its unstoppable
heaviness

Probably on the whole Children of Bodom's most consistent album, overall the songs are stronger than any other release, the musicianship was stronger than before and there are plenty of solos(see Bodom beach terror). This album got me into this band, they're great fun and one of the best metal bands in the world today, arcade fire etc. have nothing on bands like this
Children of Bodom Hatebreeder

Everything that was great about conclusion of an age x 1000, more technical, progressive,
epic, it's heavier and josh's vocals are better than jamie's. A better album all round that

Trivium Ascendancy
Trivium Shogun
After the crusade, an album that can best be described as a flop, Trivium's future was
uncertain, but considering the quality of Shogun we needn't have worried. Everything that
was bad about Trivium's earlier albums is gone. Trivium have effectively grown up and
produced a mature and intelligent album that should as well as regaining the popularity they
lost after Ascendancy, give them some credibility among metal fans. The riffs are far more
creative and are catchier than those on other albums, and the songs themselves feature far
more complex and even progressive structures that make things all the more interesting.
Heafy's vocals have improved and his screams have more power and an altogether less grating
sound like on Ascendancy. His clean vocal have improved as well and he has developed a style
that can more be called his own. Bar a couple of weaker tracks in the second half Shogun is
a consistently stunning album and is easily the best of Trivium's career so far

To be honest, this is blatant plaigarism, but even though they sound just like AC/DC, this album is better than anything AC/DC have put out since For those about to rock(we salute you) in 1981. The songs are pretty decent and it sounds oddly relevant in a way i can't quite explain. It's good fun and can be appreciated for that reason

Unearth The Stings of Conscience
It's far from the quality of their later albums and while it showed potential for what they could do and was one of the earliest albums to be released as part of the metalcore scene, but it's really not that good. The songs are very so-so and the production is terrible(it wouldn't matter if the songs were good but they're not)

Bon Iver For Emma, Forever Ago
I've tried so many times to get into this, but I just can't, I don't feel anything when I listen to it, It's tedious and bland. The songs are weak and lack any character. Just my opinion and I can accept I'm wrong because everybody else loves this, but I just can't see why

Emmure Speaker of the Dead
As much as were all probably a bit hard on Emmure on here, the idea that this is an improvement on their previous albums doesn't make much sense in my mind. Like Felony this albums lacks any substance and is the same incoherent mess of breakdowns and one note riffs that seem to characterise Emmure's sound. The lyrics are no better and simply add to the stupidity of the whole thing. Unfortunately Emmure show no signs of changing any time soon

Metallica Metallica
It always seems odd that metalheads defend this album when they criticise bands like bullet for my valentine who are doing the same thing, they criticise bfmv and a7x for being mainstream when they defend metallica who sold out and became mainstream, just saying. This is an alright album, some songs are far better than others, but it's ok overall
Metallica Death Magnetic
Metallica Beyond Magnetic
Morbid Angel Illud Divinum Insanus
This album will be their St. anger. The songs are weak and just plain embarrassing, this is the biggest disappointment of the year

I feel nothing when I listen to this, this is dull and uninventive hardcore that's devoid of any energy or any good songs
Ulver Wars of the Roses
a self centred, pretentious, arty mess. This doesn't have half the artistic value the band think it does
Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend
Waking the Cadaver Perverse Recollections of a Necromangler

1.0 awful
3OH!3 Streets of Gold
Anthrax The Greater of Two Evils
It's completely beyond me what purpose re-recording old material with a different and vastly inferior singer is supposed to serve
Asking Alexandria Life Gone Wild
Attack Attack! (US) Someday Came Suddenly
Attack Attack! (US) Attack Attack!
Black Veil Brides We Stitch These Wounds
Bon Iver Bon Iver, Bon Iver
I don't understand people's affinity for such bland and uninteresting drivel as this, the vocal style aside at least, but the songs themselves are lazy and generic

they've cut the awful and weird stuff and reverted to plain old generic post metalcore, I'm
