5.0 classic
Agalloch The Mantle
Unbelievable. Beautiful ,haunting, emotive, just amazing. I never expected something this good from a band like Agalloch, whose reputation is more of a doom metal band, more than progressive. The folkish passages combined with the heavy distorted parts is genius, even though not a new thing. I recommend it especially to whoever likes black metal, folk metal, and progressive. A masterpiece, one of the best of the decade for me.
Anekdoten Nucleus
Seems like only a few agree with me. "Nucleus" is so far Anekdoten's finest and best album, a true Heavy Progressive masterpiece. Paranoia, tension, and weirdness are the ingredients of this album and the title track is one of the most successful examples. "Harvest" is another gem, as well as "Book Of Hours", almost ten minutes of an outstanding, increasing climax. "In Freedom" can be easily considered the best closer of all Anekdoten albums, thanks to it's post apocalyptic tones and calm moments. The rest maintains the same levels, making "Nucleus" an absolute modern prog classic.
Beck Odelay
What an amazing album. Beck is truly a great and innovating experimenter: all the songs, blues, folk, hip hop, or even psych, are bended with some weird effects, strange electronic beats, or with unusual instruments. A masterpiece, one of the definite albums of the 90's.
Dream Theater Images and Words
Dream Theater Awake
Harmonium Les Cinq Saisons
Probably one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever. All the songs here are mellow, but so intense that it can warm your heart like no other piece of music. Splendid, enigmatic, even creepy in some moments (the use of the mellotron is very scary at times), it's most definitely one of the best progressive albums of all time.
Kayo Dot Choirs of the Eye
maudlin of the Well Part the Second
Probably their best album. So beautiful, a true gem, an inspired and inspiring masterpiece, so visionary, it seems like it comes from the future. A year has passed since the release of "Part The Second", and I'm still not sick of it. Never get's old, there is always after every listen something you haven't noticed before. This amazing dogma must be listened to any prog or even rock fan, and remember to keep your mind open.
Mr. Bungle Disco Volante
A classic of avant garde metal and RIO music. One of those albums that are really fun to listen to, not boring for one minute, always entertaining. However, if you do not like experimental music, stay away from Mr. Bungle, and from "Disco Volante", surely their magnum opus. In fact, after this they won't be able to each these high levels with the following "California".
My Bloody Valentine Loveless
Loveless is an extraordinary and brave masterpiece, I was extremely fascinated by it's unique and weird style, very ethereal but brutal at the same time, in one word, shoegaze.
Not only it's an album that invented a genre, but it's also an album that went down in history as an important moment in rock music.
A classic.
Opeth Still Life
A masterpiece of prog metal. Other than being one of the best prog metal albums ever, it is one of the most refined piece of music that metal has ever released. If you are a fan of the genre, this is a must listen for you. Classic.
Phideaux Doomsday Afternoon
Porcupine Tree In Absentia
Porcupine Tree On the Sunday of Life
Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet
Another PT masterpiece. FOABP is probably the bands most mature and solid album, definitely the best album of 2007 and one of the very best of the decade. Essential for any prog fan, a monumental event in the history of this genre, even though many people might consider this affirmation excessive.
Public Image Ltd. Metal Box
Riverside Anno Domini High Definition
The best album of 2009, and one of the best of the decade. So powerful, creative and original, Riverside reach their masterpiece, that will certainly change progressive metal as we know it. A must listen for any prog metal fan. Another underrated opus.
Sigur Ros Agætis byrjun
One of the best post rock albums ever. A true classic, an album that definitely defined a genre. The melodies and arrangements are stunning, the vocalisms are great, the sound is excellent. An unforgettable epic album, that really does sound like God crying. Essential for any rock fan.
Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
The Jesus and Mary Chain Psychocandy
The Mars Volta Frances the Mute
Tool Ænima
This album completely changed my life. Thanks to Aenima, in fact, I discovered the existence of prog, and it is now the genre that I most listen to. This album though is most definitely the best album of the nineties, so incredibly solid and full of songs that truly scare, warm, and creep out your most intimate feelings. A classic, essential for any music lover.
Tortoise Millions Now Living Will Never Die
One of the most important albums of all time. Extremely underrated, it is indeed a masterpiece, one of those albums that really moved me, like rarely an album does. "Millions" is surely the band's best album yet and one of the very best post rock albums ever.

4.5 superb
Dream Theater Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
An excellent album, even though it is a little overrated. Some songs, the heavy ones, are the highest peak of DT, but all the ballads never really attracted me as much as other ballads of the band. But anyway, it's still a superb album.
maudlin of the Well Leaving Your Body Map
Superb. Really. Some of these songs are really deep, and demonstrate that the band has reached their maturity. Despite this I don't think it's better than the classic masterpiece "Bath", nor their latest album "Part The Second", a true hymn to beauty, but still worth listening.
Pat Metheny Bright Size Life
A wonderful debut for one of the best jazz guitarists of all time. Relaxing, wonderfully calm, with some beautiful guitar playing, which is never distorted, as well as excellent musicianship by legendary bass player Jaco Pastorius and drummer Bob Moses.
A near perfect album, if you like jazz this is a must listen for you.
Porcupine Tree Stupid Dream
Porcupine Tree Lightbulb Sun
Porcupine Tree The Sky Moves Sideways
Porcupine Tree The Incident

4.0 excellent
Anekdoten Vemod
Anekdoten A Time of Day
Dream Theater Train of Thought
maudlin of the Well My Fruit Psychobells... A Seed Combustible
Not bad at all, MFPASC is an extremely interesting album, with creepy atmospheres in some moments, comforting in other, relaxing in some, violent in other. If you're a MOTW fan, you should definitely give this a try
Nine Inch Nails The Fragile
Porcupine Tree Signify
Porcupine Tree Up the Downstair
Porcupine Tree Nil Recurring
Tool Undertow
An interesting debut indeed. This album tends to be very underrated, because of it's huge distance to a mature sound, so as a consequence the style is more Heavy metal than progressive. An excellent album, very complex, despite the things I said earlier, and also with a great sense of mystery thanks to Maynard's unique and powerful voice that will be Tool's biggest mark in the years to come.

3.5 great
Anathema Judgement
Anekdoten Gravity
Anekdoten From Within
Kayo Dot Dowsing Anemone With Copper Tongue
After their astonishing and beautiful debut, Kayo Dot reach a different sound and style, creating a less beautiful and more tense atmosphere in all of their songs here. Many times this album has been acclaimed, even in this site, but many times it tends to be forgotten and underrated. Personally, I think it's a great album that should be a little more loved.
Neil Young Sleeps with Angels
Opeth Orchid
R.E.M. Monster
A solid album, that's for sure. With this album, R.E.M. try to use much more distortion, combined with the usual jangle pop moods. "Monster" is the result, an album that has it's moments, but also has some least interesting ones. I think 3.5 is the best rating for this.
Rush Roll the Bones
Not bad at all. Rush's Roll The Bones has some surprising melodies, very catchy and hearable. Songs like "bravado", "Dreamline", "Ghost of a Chance", are amazing, very intense and enigmatic (the last two at least). Of course other songs are mediocre, but always fun to listen to. Great!

3.0 good
Amon Duul II Tanz Der Lemminge
Pretty good album, even though I thought that many parts were boring. I'm a huge krautrock and electronic fan, so if something bores me, it has to be REALLY boring for a normal person. Everything about krautrock is included: the bizzarre melodies, the weird atmospheres (similar to Can, Faust or Neu!) are the main characteristics of the album, as well as interesting vocals and overall good performances by all the artists.
Mr. Bungle Mr. Bungle
not bad for a debut, but it could have been much better. My two favorite songs are the first two, then the rest on my opinion is easily forgettable and not so appealing. Some moments are really good, but others are nothing special.

2.5 average
Marillion Fugazi
"Punch And Judy" is one of the best Marillion songs ever. Assassing is an excellent song, and the last two minutes of Incubus are heaven to my ears. The rest is in my opinion easily forgettable, so these couple of songs that I didn't mention really make the average of the album a lot lower. Too bad.

2.0 poor
