If you were to drive a car off a cliff while rabid hyenas were chasing you while two amazing hot girls in the backseat were simultaneously attempting to have intercourse with you while you sang "Rubber Ducky, You're the One" at the top of your lungs while eating a grilled cheese sandwich that danced when you tried to take a bite of it you might have an equal amount of chaotic fun as Daughters gives you.

Alice in Chains Black Gives Way to Blue
When I heard of Alice in Chains' plans to record a new album, Black Gives Way to Blue, I, being the massive fanboy that I am, promptly shat myself. As the release date grew closer and closer and the Layne-loving haters grew greater and greater in number, I still kept my faith in vocalist William Duvall, who had the arduous task of replacing Staley. Then, on the fateful day when I finally heard the new album, I was tremendously disappointed and went around whining like a little Layne fanbitch. To put it in the band's on words, shame in me, because this album easily matches and even outdoes a good portion of Alice's old material. Standout "Private Hell" recalls vintage Dirt form, and yet the epicness of "All Secrets Known" and "A Looking In View" is completely new for the band. To top it all off, the title track is a tremendous and moving tribute to Layne himself. More optimism, more heaviness, and just a generally amazing record.

Faith No More Introduce Yourself
It might be tough for some Patton fanatics to fathom, but Introduce Yourself stands toe-to-toe with a good portion of FNM's later material. Chuck Mosley is a bumbling yet lovable replacement, with his endless charisma making up for the many instances where he just can't quite stay in tune (check the ultra-catchy "Anne's Song," the bizarre and wonderful "Crab Song" or the intro to "Death March" for examples of the prior). The real credit lies with Jim Martin and Roddy Bottum, whose bristling, atmospheric guitar and keyboard lines, respectively, set the tone for a fun, fast-paced album that shouldn't be taken that seriously. While it obviously fails to match Patton's best moments, its tough to find a more enjoyable listen than Introduce Yourself.

Peter Wolf Crier Inter-Be
If the basis of Inter-Be was truly written, as vocalist Peter Pisano claims, over the course of a single summer night, I truly would have loved to experience such a night for myself. Say what you will about Peter Wolf Crier--- that they sound like Justin Vernon, that they sound too minimalist with their two-piece approach--- but the main point here is that they sound really fucking good. Inter-Be manages to be both raw and polished (perhaps tasteful is the right word), creating a dense, instrumental atmosphere but never drifting so far that they lose themselves within it. An unquestioned contender for the year's best debut.

Sick of It All Based on a True Story
Once Sick of it All righted the ship a bit with 2006's Death to Tyrants, it seemed like the potential was there for the next logical step--- an album that could match their magnum opus, Just Look Around. Lead single "Death or Jail," one of many highlights on the hardcore punkers' newest effort, was a positive indication, one of a few songs here that recall that vintage 1992 form. "A Month of Sundays" isn't the strongest track on the record musically, but the fresh, nostalgic enthusiasm in Lou Koller's voice as he recalls the days of his youth is contagious, and enthusiasts will enjoy live staple "Braveheart" finally put to record. Based on a True Story isn't good enough to be crowned Sick of it All's best album, but it's good enough to make listeners stop wishing for Just Look Around II and just listen to Koller and company rock their middle-aged socks off. Really, what else could you want?

Cold Superfiction
The thing about Superfiction is that it's basically as bland and neutered as A Different Kind of Pain and doesn't even have the few standout songs that its predecessor boasted. Like any Cold record post-Balsamo and Hayes, Superfiction is full of slow, plodding ballads and really has no semblance of flow--you can really hear the five years that passed between the two releases. Still, fans can take solace in the fact that the songs the band released as teasers more or less make up the weakest part of the album. Superfiction has a handful of quality tracks, a small but noticeable infusion of creativity and is probably the best anyone could have expected from Scooter Ward and his band of merry men at this point in their careers.

MGMT Congratulations
I'll be honest with you--- I don't really like MGMT, so disregard me for being biased if you like. But what kept their other albums/EPs afloat for me were those little catchy guilty pleasure singles a la "Kids"--- if they kept chugging out one or two of those an album I had no beef with them. Well, to put it bluntly, there are no such songs on Congratulations; the band admits this themselves. If MGMT wanted to be taken seriously and for listeners to enjoy the album as a whole, they forgot one very small aspect: Make good music. That's not to say they've matured either--- Congratulatons is stock-full of carefree little synthjams that descend past the point of floating along innocently and become just plain irritating. Oh and the album cover with a fucking three-headed surfing monkey doesn't help either.
