Someday Came SuddenlyCatchy is the best adjective to describe this album. The synth rhythms grab you and won't let go, then drag you into intense breakdowns backed with some talented screaming. There really isn't a bad song on the album. Even the intro track "Hot Grills, and High Tops" and brief instrumental "Interlude" are interesting enough to listen to every time (you know how most of the time you skip those boring transition tracks? not this album). If you're an old fan who has heard the band's original recordings, I think you'll be very impressed with the improvements they've made. And if you're new to the band, I'll tell you this CD is more than worth the $10.Blessthefall His Last WalkHis Last Walk is arguably a classic in terms of post-hardcore music. The guitar work and vocals sync perfectly together to make some extremely impressive songs. I'd be amazed with anyone who doesn't fall in love after hearing "Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad."Memphis May Fire Memphis May FireThe vocals are killer, it's a real shame they lost the guy. The southern rock/post hardcore style riffs are jaw dropping. This is one of the best EP's I've had the privilege to own. Catchy songs like Currents Convulsive and Yeah Boy and Doll Face will catch you off guard, and then stick in your head for days on end. The song structure is unique too - by the end of each song, I find myself craving to hear a riff from the beginning again. I'd recommend this CD to anyone who can handle the high-pitched vocals.Senses Fail Still Searching (Deluxe Edition)The Devil Wears Prada PlaguesThe increased amount of clean singing really helped TDWP put out a strong album. The rhythms are in your face, the screams are unique, and the lyrics are definitely original. Lots of bands have tried the whole synth+post-hardcore thing, and I think these guys know how to use it best. They give the breakdowns this awesome vibe, when lots of other bands just drop the synths during breakdowns. This album definitely isn't for everybody, but if you're into the whole synth/hxc thing you'll love these guys.La Dispute Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair It only took one song and these guys immediately became my favorite of the month. Fans of Norma Jean, ETID, etc should do themselves a favor and listen to "Damaged Goods" or "New Storms for Older Lovers". And then check out their older stuff, like I'm about to right now. Oh, Sleeper When I Am GodSimply put, a very solid album. The breakdowns are just completely ill, and pretty much command you to bang your head a bit. I would've loved to have given this album a higher score, but some of the open note stroke patterns on the guitar just sound too similar. All the same, these guys are worth checking out!Relient K MmhmmIt's a strong punk rock album, even more enjoyable if you're a Christian. For the most part, the instrumentals are catchy and fun. The vocals can be a little bland, and usually only accent the music more than take control of it. Don't get me wrong though, they really shine on songs like "I So Hate Consequences" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been".Senses Fail Life Is Not a Waiting RoomI wasn't a huge fan of Senses Fail back in the day, but I really love this CD. The rhythms have a tendency to just make you wanna move, it's awesome. Vocals are strong in both lyrics and ability. Great CD for any fan of punk/alternative/rock in general!The Devil Wears Prada Dear Love: A Beautiful DiscordThis album was a huge step in the progression of Post-Hardcore. The intense amount of screaming can turn away some other post-hardcore fans, but I urge them to give this CD a chance. Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over and Rosemary Had an Accident have some of the sickest riffs I've ever heard. Check it out!The Maine Can't Stop, Won't StopPersonally, I really like these guys. Their instrumentals have a little bit of a classic rock taste to them at times - but whenever they drift from the typical pop punk chorus riff, the vocals are there to keep everything together. The album gets kinda bland in the last few tracks (especially lyrically...don't these guys get bored of singing about girls?), but the beginning of the album is very catchy and enjoyable. I recommend "Girls Do What They Want" and "This Is The End".Underoath Survive Kaleidoscope3.0 goodEscape the Fate Dying Is Your Latest FashionFour Letter Lie What A Terrible Thing To SayIt's hard to find anything spectacular about this album. FLL has a bad habit of being overly generic. Nonetheless, it's still pretty good and post hardcore fans will definitely be finding these songs on playlists if they buy this album.Hit the Lights Skip School, Start FightsI'm new to these guys, but I was hooked after hearing "Back Breaker" on their Myspace. They've got more balls than typical pop punk groups like All Time Low or We The Kings. The vocals and guitars are strong throughout the album, but you probably won't even notice the drums or bass. It's kind of your typical pop punk CD though, so if you're not into the genre you might want to stay back and leave it for the teens.Underoath 777 (DVD)Underoath Lost in the Sound of Separation2.5 averageA Skylit Drive Wires...and the Concept of BreathingEscape the Fate This War Is OursThe lyrics are flat out corny, but the vocal work is awesome. Craig's style works really well with songs like The Flood and This War Is Ours. Other than that, the rest of it sounds kinda' recycled. Not that it's BAD, but I expected more. The drums are really catchy, but nothing too spectacular. The guitar shines in many of these songs, especially the solo in This War Is Ours. I think any fan of Craig Mabbitt/pop punk/alternative will be able to enjoy this CD.Linkin Park Minutes to MidnightWell, the music on this CD isn't bad, save for the redundancy of some of the political based lyrics. But now, remember who Linkin Park is? The guys who made Hybrid Theory? The band that was known for writing lyrics that anyone can relate to? This album does NOT carry the torch of the last two, and they've lost a lot of fans by making such a dramatic, forced change. I don't dislike this album for being calm, I dislike this album because they just didn't do as much as they could've with it. Joe barely does anything on this CD. Mike never raps, and he only does significant vocal work in two songs: one of which is a b-side exclusive to iTunes. Chester's voice is just as good as ever, but there aren't enough breakdowns or scream sessions to make it really shine. On the bright side, I am impressed with Brad's guitar work though - he has a few "solos" here and there. Overall, the album is good...but when I think about what it could've been, I can't help be anything but disappointed.We The Kings We The KingsThere are a few songs on this CD that are just awesome: mainly "Check Yes Juliet", "Skyway Avenue", and "This Is Our Town". Other than that, everything sounds pretty much the same. The guitars and drums may grab your attention, but I'll warn you, the vocals get a little annoying after 3 or 4 songs. There isn't really much about the album that'll make you want to go back and listen to it a month later. Go on iTunes and download a song or two, but save yourself the cash and don't buy the album unless you REALLY like them.2.0 poorSum 41 Underclass HeroI was pretty disappointed with this CD, to say the least. Punk rock has come a long way, and I don't think there's much more for bands like Sum 41 to do in order to be successful. "With Me" made an excellent single, but the rest of the album just wasn't memorable.1.5 very poorLinkin Park Underground 7Seriously, the only people who care about LP enough to join the Underground already have more personal Live versions (and probably multiple recordings) of all the songs on this CD. The least they could've done is made a higher quality live recording of these tracks. Bleh. Sorry LP, but this year the Underground is not worth being in.
