Circle Takes The Square As The Roots Undo
The first few times I heard 'As the Roots Undo', I had a hard time getting into most of the songs because of the heavily jointed instrumental sections and the almost disorderly drumming. And what's more, I couldn't clench the emotion behind many of the screams and dual vocals on top of the heavier passages. I was quite into 'Kill the Switch' at this point but the rest of the tracks weren't on par, or so I thought. Coming back to the album proved otherwise. Yeah basically once you get into it, it's hard to stop listening.
Converge Jane Doe
After several listens, I've reached the conclusion that Converge's Jane Doe is the best metalcore album ever. No actually, it's the best album ever. The way I see it, when dissected, the album is made up of roughly two so-called "greater" facets. There's an instrumental facade to the album which at first seems great, but doesn't strike you as being something so consistent that it compels further excavation. However, it's a secondary facade which makes up the foundation of Jane Doe's splendor. In perspective, Jane Doe is very emotional but fails to deliver that emotion from the get-go. This latent emotional quality, which is expressed to it's full potential only when you've listened to the whole album, is the aspect that makes Jane Doe rise above any other metalcore record. The perfect album in my honest opinion.
Glassjaw Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About
In Pieces Lions Write History
In addition to being criminally underrated, Lions Write History is one of the most molecular records I own. Featuring soundscapes and tonality that convey the very colors seen by a realist in our world, the record sleeve is reminiscent of paintings like Rain, Steam and Speed by Joseph Mallord William Turner. Significantly, both the album and this painting possess an acute sense of humanity, but are also borne on an ethereal quality which is introduced alike with the steam engine appearing out of the heavy, earthy mist (bringing a sense of novelty into the 20th century amidst a world of skepticism and reluctance for change). Being neither pretentious nor conspicuously plain, the record molds sweeping adagios alongside very angular rhythm sections and bass-driven melodies. The best part about the record by far is the collaboration that grace the tracks, wrought alike with an overwhelming sense of pensiveness that goes into the both the pre-production and the mastering of the album. These are, to cut a long story short, perfect on the record, being apparent but not enough to ruin the subtle progression of the songs.

Thrice The Illusion of Safety
Thrice's Illusion of Safety was an album that at first, struck me as being fairly uninspired, and very trite sounding. It was not until I put the album into context that I realized how much effort had actually gone into the songwriting, which yielded a very tight structure. The record flows seamlessly through tracks and runs the gamut of human emotion, with brilliant pieces including "Where Idols Once Stood" and "So Strange I Remember You", and ending on a cathartic note with "The Beltsville Crucible". An awesome album meriting the title it holds.

Killswitch Engage As Daylight Dies
This is a step down from their previous material, and it seems KSE are quickly running out of solid writing material. The songs at first may be awe-inspiring, but quickly lose the effect as overused melodies fall into blandness. After about the 20th time of listening to this album, I rather advertently asked myself "What did I see in this album?", and that question being difficult to answer, I began to move on. After losing interest in this album and coming back to the unelaborated choruses and recycled riffs, I had definitely come to learn that Killswitch Engage had simply been lost in the world of industry, and no longer was the raw, more forceful approach present like on albums such as "Alive or Just Breathing", with Jesse Leaches ruthless vocals to top it off. Arguably, this album has more of a nostalgic feel to it and has a clearer production, but it's not the best Killswitch Engage can do, and many of you know it.

Job for a Cowboy Doom EP
Job for a Cowboy Genesis
Job For A Cowboy have received a lot of praise upon their incoming debut album, which left fans thirsty for more. Their 2007 release, Genesis, shows no enormous improvement and variation from their first album. Most songs are hard to distinguish by the time you've reached the end of the album, and lean towards the generic side with a metalcore influence. Yet many argue about whether they fulfill the criterion for a straight-up death metal sound, where JFAC have transitioned from a Death/Metalcore style from their EP. Good tempo changes and riff alternations help to captivate, but wouldn't fully define the progressivity that they should have to make it even more refreshing. The Divine Falsehood excels above most of the tracks and nicely highlights the instrumental distortion. This album is very over-hyped.

Still Remains The Serpent
'Of Love and Lunacy' was a solid metalcore album, more oriented towards a melodically infused base, touched up by the trademark of their sound; namely, keyboards. In spite of redundant KsE choruses and the infamous, but occasional breakdown, Still Remains had a signature sound. With a gradual urge to find themselves on the radio, SR now take the vaguest, incosistent parts from Of Love and Lunacy, and blend it in a mayhem of mediocre keyboarding and toddler melodies. Derivative songs and genericore riffs aren't all that bothers anymore, as alas, SR return with a more poppy, incohesive and dishonest album. Something to avoid at all costs.
