Imagine a jazzier meshuggah. it's average time length is 1 and a half minutes, so it doesn't drag and remains interesting throughout. he uses his breath controller effect more on this album, using it as part of the song instead of just the solos. the vocals on this album are pretty strange too, with tomas haake (meshuggah's drummer) using a vocoder to effect a reptilian voice. the drums, supplied by morgan agren, is on par, if not better, than tomas haake, doing what tomas haake do best, but also creating interesting fills too. the guitars are nearly the same as what meshuggah is doing though, with the bass generally following what the guitar does. there are other instruments on this album too, from an organ, to a yidaki (didjeridoo), and a saxophone.
all in all, a very good and interesting listen. 4.5/5 |
