What good word is there in the dictionary that can't describe Opeth? The perfect blend of hard and soft comes naturally to this band, and it definitely shows in their most favorited album on this site, Blackwater Park. From the smashing intro of "The Leper Affinity," you know you're in for a wild and great ride. "Bleak" also shows a bluesy side to this band, and the song has a guest appearance by Steven Wilson. "Dirge for November" has the most intricate opening and closing of any song on this album, and probably the most intricate of any metal album I've heard. The title track will definitely not go without mention, with it's ever-changing riffs and brutal delivery. All of this and more comes with the package, which will leave an ever-lasting impression on you of who and what Opeth is. |
