| At the Gates Terminal Spirit Disease |
| It was very hard to decide which album is greater, Terminal Spirit Disease or Slaughter of the Soul because first one is the groundwork for "Gothenburg sound" and second one is the peak achievement in that sound. Finally i decided for the first one. Those only six new At the Gates songs have launched a hundreds of new bands with similar sound and second largest death metal wave. Music is at the same time melodic and very harsh, without any unnecessary sound decorations, while Slaughter of the Soul has more tougher sound with cleaner production. Finally, particular attraction to this album gives Thomas with his unique infernal vocal which does entirely concur with lyrics. |

Seemed really weird on the first listen, but this album is basically a tribute to the 80's.
Paying homage to Motorhead, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Manilla Road & the like. Yet, it's original in it's delivery and performance. Turned out to be a really awesome listen overall, there's a lot of diversity within the album itself. It's a mixture of NWOBHM & Black Metal. Surely one of my top picks for 2010.

| Probably the ultimate concept album. John Schaffer's guitars are excellent, vocals suit the songs very well. Dave Abell does a good job on this release, his bass isn't as thick as it is in future releases. An essential in any metal fans collection, great riffs that gallop along through the album, superb drumming and great storyline with the perfect atmosphere. |

| Kreator Coma of Souls |
The album seems to follow exactly where "Extreme Aggression" left off, with thrash metal oriented towards technique with brutal vocals, which was quite promising, it opens more with three awesome tracks, When the Sun Burns Red, Comma Of Souls and People of the Lie, nevertheless from there the songs that follow one another are of very linear form, practically following a stand-alone format, and many of them have some their good moments, Mental Slavery is a really good track.
I think that in terms of thrash metal, Kreator is one of the most brutal bands there is. The vocals are deep and roughly delivered, the guitar solos and firm and meaningful, and the percussionist does a great job at keeping the band going. "Where should I start with this band, Vito?" I must recommend Coma of Souls for a number of reasons. The first reason is that it was my first album, and it certainly got me hooked on them. Second of all, it probably is their most consistent record. I don't know about you, but consistency is a good thing in my eyes.
Kreator's highlight songs on this release include "People of the Lie", "Terror Zone", and "Hidden Dictator". This is a good place to start if you want to get into the heavier britches of thrash metal. A fine release. |
| Kreator Terrible Certainty |
| After the bestial "Pleasure To Kill" album and much more incisive than its predecessor, Kreator continues the process of complexification of thrash (dare I say “sophistication”). Terrible Certainty delivers its batch of heinous gusts as it should be (“Blind Faith”, “One of Us”, “Behind the Mirror” and its pretty intro in the “Choirs of the Damned”), falls of mode are reduced in “No Escape” and its hopping refrain and to “Ace the World Burns” (a kind of remake of “Riot of Violence”, there still braill?y Ventor). Under these appearances of repetition, the innovation is in the variations of tempos, from now on very frequent (the anthems “Terrible Certainty” and “Toxic Trace” abound in it). These efforts, quite real, are not however sufficient to propel the group towards higher division (the solos are always also chaotic, Kerry King would have the shivers) and are in any event devaluated by a production which scrambles listening. It is undoubtedly for that that Terrible Certainty is an album sometimes forgotten a little in the discography of Kreator, but it nevertheless has its charm. |

| Slow Roosevelt Weightless |
This Texas act can be filed under the category METAL,it?s not numetal or powermetal but simply agressive Metal with some Pantera,Simon Says and Poison the well in it.
I don?t think Slow Roosevelt?s-Weightless will be the heaviest album this year but they could certainly be a contender for the hardest album this year, making
Metallica?s St.Anger sound like Dipersongs.
The singer Pete Thomas sounds like a mix between Richard Patrick (Filter),Blackie Lawless (WASP) and Phil Anselmo (Pantera),yes he screams better than he sings and the music is not very melodic which is a shame but fans of this agressive kind of Metal will be pleased because the riffs are murderous.
Just take the title "Piss and vinegar" and you can figure out what we?re dealing with here, another song on the album that can be filed under horror and nightmare metal is "Comfort from a bomb" which has some major Filter vibes over it and it stands out as one of the most melodic tracks on the album but also at the same time could scare a little kid if he/she heard it before sleeping.
"Silverback" is like a missile that can sink any submarine anytime,I see those guitars coming straight at ya and well....if you feel
like being brutalized,Slow Roosevelt will be the perfect cure to knock you down and out! |
| Sodom Tapping the Vein |
| Tapping The Vein is not Sodom's best album, but it's still one of the most overlooked Sodom-albums that deserved more fame than it actually got. It's very heavy, it got some killer riffs and drumming too. The vocals given to us by Angelripper could have been better, but still, they're quite good. Dark and extreme, just like they usually are. rIt may be the darkest Sodom album and could possibly be called a black metal album. The main stand outs are "Body Parts", "Skined Alive" and the brutally heavy title track. Other songs that are worth listening to are "Bullet in the Head" and "Hunting Season". Buy this if you can find, it may not be their best but it's worth having. |

Not only the greatest band in the world but they exceptional live performers, and this album is an example of the Beatles at their best recording live for the BBC.
This album has a lot of recordings from the Beatles playing 50's american rock'n 'roll too, and it's a must-have!

| Even though Hot Rocks was a more thorough collection, Big Hits remains the essential document of the Stones during the British Invasion. Covering some of their biggest moments including "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," "Get Off Of My Cloud," "The Last Time," "Time Is On My Side," the collection contains several great songs that were left behind from this period including "Tell Me," "Not Fade Away," "Play With Fire." Period hits collection tend to do a better job in both representing that period and in producing playable collection, and Big Hits is an excellent example, at twelve songs it plays just as well as the albums, and gives a fuller of view of the Stones as a band during this period. Highly recommended. |

| At the Gates Slaughter of the Soul |
The change that started at "Terminal Spirit Disease" album was completed in this album. They added Slayer influenced riffs to their sound and the outcome "Slaughter of Soul" has become a Death/Thrash metal masterpiece. Unfortunately, this album has become the final album of At the Gates. Essentially, The Haunted picked up where At the Gates left off and recorded three solid albums, but never came close to the quality of "Slaughter of Soul".
This album is also one of the most influential metal albums ever. Tons of thrash/death metal and metalcore bands got inspired by this album and used it as a recipe. Unfortunately, most of them failed to improve upon this album and most of these bands sounded the same and have all become At the Gates rip-offs. So, if you haven't listened to this album before, keep in mind that these guys are the originals. |

I've always enjoyed Boy Hits Car and its a crying shame that they aren't recieving more attention. I am certain that if more people heard them, most people would like it.
The album is a melodic adventure! You've got your folkie 12 String. You've got your rockin' metal guitar and bass. You've got your tender ballads with beautiful harmonies. But wait..., you've also got your heartfelt growls. Just as the liner notes suggest, put the CD in and push play. Start with the first song and begin your journey to the passage. Experience everything great music has to offer. Put it this way, I have a 10 disk changer that hasn't moved for 3 weeks (I'm not just saying that either). Boy Hits Car's new CD, The Passage has a sound set apart from the current Top 40 Alternative Albums. Not only that, but they are a force to be reckoned with on stage. Their live show is inspiring and the musicians are fantastic to their fans. CRegg and Lou put up no fronts..., they are the real deal. Their music is real. Buy the album! |

| Kreator Pleasure to Kill |
Kreator are often hailed to be the best European metal band ever. Well thrash metal that is, I think Iron Maiden and Judas Priest have just a bit more on Kreator.
Well the album kicks of with the majestic opener track "Chior of the Damned" which is actually a really kool track in my mind. The melodic intro soon turns into the brutal "Ripping Corpse" which is my fav Kreator track. The vocals may not be they best but hey there's worse out there... a lot worse! One quick note is that the drumming on this album is fast, very fast and sometimes may sound like a mad gorilla is just beating the pulp out of the drum set that is not the case. The drumming is very good but the speed that is played gives the illusion of random noise. The next standout track is the title track. This is yet another brutal song and is done very well. I really like the middle where they slow the song down it give you a break from the blinding speed of the album. Last but not least is the mid tempo song "Riot of Violence" I use the mid tempo term loosely because it is still a fast song but compared to some of the other tracks it seems slow. The track is well crafted and the solos are amazing. This song really grabs your attention because it sounds like it's going to end many times during the song and you left wondering when it will end.
This is the second best extreme metal release of 1986 ( Reign in Blood is the best). If you can find this buy it you won't be dissapointed! |

| Following up 1983's monumental "Melissa" record with "Don't Break the Oath", Denmark's MERCYFUL FATE established a place for themselves in evil music history. This album glows with the best witching metal moments ever created. Shermann and Denner's intricate melodies and harmonies set over the King's wailing vocals and sinister falsetto still qualifies as some of the most evil-sounding music you're likely to hear. If you listen closely, you can hear the influences of early 70's bands like CAPTAIN BEYOND in Shermann's playing and the way the songs are structured. Dancing Madly Backwards....to Satan? "Desecration of Souls" has one of the most killer riffs of all time. |

Great album that came along as a evolution success of the band. Thrash became technique and newbies became professional musicians, but preserving all the energy before the flame burned out and other generations came deciding they didn´t like the inheritance (as usual).
The feeling that thrash metal had something to say as a serious musical style takes it´s greater steps in records like this, concise and powerful. This album holds the best of that years, and this is timeless if you are a listener without prejudices. Thanks to Overkill!! |

| The Unforgettable Sound of the Pointy Shoe Factory. This is some spooky stuff, perfect for Halloween. Organs, harpsichords and other gloomy keyboards are combined with violins and saxophone, plus Daron Beck's dramatic vocals. To make things even more unsettling, they close the album with a pretty damn good, by the numbers cover of Roy Orbison's "In Dreams." |

| This is a compilation of Sodom demo tracks and live material. The first 8 tracks are the 1984 demo Victims of Death. The 9th track is a cover version of Venom's 1000 Days of Sodom. The remaining tracks are a live recording from about 1985. If you're a big fan of the band, then this is them in their earliest, rawest form. |

@ Arnynerd , this album may seem dull and boring to the untrained ear.
Really a good metalcore album, nice growling (not screaming but top notch growling on some songs) , clean vocals arent that abd either. I like the way they add variation to their songs and change the tune suddenly. Although one may get pissed off at some points its really cool when you hear it more than once.
Nice album, so buy it. |

Trivium are the biggest double sellouts ever. They sold their metalcore fans out when they (supposedly) went Thrash and now they've alienated their pseudo-thrash fans again by going Thrashcore (I can't believe I said that word). We dont even know what they are right now.
Kirisute Gomen was fairly ok, they shouldn't have ripped that first part off of Opeth though and certain other parts are generic and recycled riffage again. Heafy's vocals are pretty annoying now especially the gurrtal scream sometimes just so that Corey can do them live. (The vocals in Upon The Shores are good though). He cant even go back to Metalcore because its dead. Poor Trivium.
all that aside, this album:
3/5
