The best way to describe this album is epic. Beetween the vast use of creative instruments and the amazing themes this album sets itself apart from everything else. Drumming in this album is fantastic, there are a huge variety of drums beetween basic snares and tympanies. This album is very vocally impressive, there are great harsh vocals and then there are epic chants in the background at times. Lord of the Rings metal is the perfect way to describe everything here. This is surely the best album of the year.Tool LateralusUlver Bergtatt4.5 superbAgalloch Ashes Against the GrainAgalloch is a band I have recently dove into. And I must say I am sure glad I did. Agalloches music provides a great atmosphere with large folk influences. The vocals on this album are all top notch especially the clean. There isnt really much wrong with this album but I find The Mantle to be better. This is my 2nd favorite release of 06 and my favorite track is falling snow, check it out!Arsis A Diamond for DiseaseBurzum FilosofemBurzum Hvis Lyset Tar OssCynic Traced In Air"This album really isn't as good as a lot of people are making it out to be. After a while this album gets extremely boring and I found myself constantly checking when each song would be over. After that long break I was kind of expecting much more from Cynic. Not that this album is bad because thats not the case. Just didn't meet my expectations." Needs more constant blast beating and shrill possessed vocals. So a couple days ago i downloaded Nattens Madrigal. And for me it is probubly the most raw black metal album I own. The Music is very enjoyable and there is an interesting concept behind it all. Aside from the horrid production quality this isnt half bad. Although I am still partial to the blend of soft and heavy instead of just the all out heavy that this album brings to the table. Weezer The Blue AlbumWell what do I have to say. This album rules and just about every track is great I cannot really find too much to complain about when it comes to this album thier best for sure.4 excellentAgalloch SplitArsis United in RegretBathory BathoryBlack Sabbath Master of RealityBurzum HliðskjálfThere is one word that can describe this album: mesmerizing. From the first track to the last, this album takes you through the mind of Varg through radiant ambient. Unlike Daudi Baldrs, this album is not disjointed and laughable, it keeps the listener interested and can calm me down like no other. Instrument use (or ad least replication with the computer) is all in its place, with nothing awkward to make you confused or seem like the album is losing its edge. The whole album is quite slow, but the songs never really drag because the album is just over 30 minutes, so its not too long. Don't be turned off by this album because of his previous ambient effort, Hlidskalf is a relaxing, awe inspiring piece of ambient art, and is perfect for sleeping or just chilling out. This however is not an album to play in the car, for it may put you to sleep.Burzum Burzum/AskeEmperor IX EquilibriumEmperor Wrath of the TyrantIron Maiden KillersIron Maiden Iron MaidenMayhem Dawn of the BlackheartsNirvana In UteroOpeth DeliverancePagan Altar Volume 1Porcupine Tree Voyage 34: The Complete TripPorcupine Tree Stupid DreamPorcupine Tree Up The DownstairRush In RioSIG:AR:TYR The StrangerStrid StridSystem of a Down Steal This Album!System of a Down HypnotizeThe Offspring SplinterI liked this album it was fun at time but its a good break from the two dissapointing albums Americana and ConspiracyThe Offspring Greatest HitsThe Offspring SmashTool 10,000 DaysUlver KveldssangerWeezer PinkertonWindir 11843.5 greatBasilisk VintyrhellChildren Of Bodom Are You Dead Yet?Yes Children of Bodom are a band i really do respect. Thier music is always catchy with some great atmosphere and technicality. This all together is a good album but i feel like it is kind of a watered down version of thier other albums. It just doesnt bring that umph that thier first 3 did. Some of the songs are a bit more samey than in past albums but there is no doubt it still beats out alot of other metal bands. My favorite song is the title track "Are you dead yet?"Ruumisvaunut KuollutSeether Karma and EffectTool UndertowUlver A Quick Fix of Melancholy EPUlver Blood Inside3 goodMayhem DeathcrushMetal Church Metal ChurchWeezer Green Album2.5 averageDissection ReinkaosThe Offspring Conspiracy Of OneThe Offspring AmericanaThe White Stripes Get Behind Me SatanUlver VargnattAlthough this demo does give a bit of a peak into Ulvers future, overall, it is very difficult to enjoy for simple listening. The production is god awful, and I know its a black metal demo, but its so bad to the point of irritation. Garms vocals aren't to good either, he sounds much scratchier and perhaps it is the production, but all that matters is that they are hard to enjoy here. Also the song structures are very plain and boring, unlike any of their later work, this lacks the beauty and awe of Bergtatt and lacks the melody and atmosphere of Nattens Madrigal. I guess it doesn't matter since its a demo, but this is nowhere near as good as Bergtatt or anything they have really done since (accept maybe themes).Weezer Maladroit2 poorBehemoth DemigodMaybe I just do not get it. But for me this album was beyond dissapointing. With several posative reviews and some raving soundoffs i decided, to check it out a while back. Behemoth for me have stood out as kind of bland on this album, not showing enought variation in the guitar riffs and solos was a major setback. In addition the vocals annoyed me to no end, proving to not set themselves appart from other death metal singers. And what is all this talk of them being so technical on this album? Sure there is soloing but the solos are really nothing special i found them to be kind of repeatative and in general tended to bore me. The drumming was pretty good on this album but that is one of the few redeeming qualities. So maybe i will look back and see i was wrong but this album has been nothing but a huge dissapointment. Burzum Dauði BaldrsCeltic Frost Cold LakeIldjarn Forest PoetryUlver Themes from William Blake's The Marriage of Hea...I truly enjoy Ulvers' later electronica work, especially Perdition City, but this album is beyond comprehensibility. To be completely honest, I failed to see the direction everything tried to go. I'm not saying this albums tendencies are random, quite the contrary, it is overly complicated. All these songs are suppose to add up to some sort of layering and the flow of this album is very disjointed as a result. Perhaps jumping from Nattens to this was the reason this turned out so funky. Garms vocals are not nearly used enough and this can get very boring. If you want good experimental Ulver, go for Perdition City, that album has a much better flow and isn't nearly as weird of disjointed as this.Weezer Make BelieveXasthur Subliminal Genocide1.5 very poorBathory OctagonWow, this album sucks. I mean Bathory is awsome, but Quorothon messed things up here. The production is bad(and not in a good way) his vocals are outright horrific, and the album is bland and recycled. Not to mention the lyrics sound like there are off an old Slipknow album. "Eat my shit, suck my dick" wow good job.Fall Out Boy From Under The Cork TreeMetallica St. AngerMy Chemical Romance Three Cheers For Sweet RevengeNachtmystium Assassins: Black Meddle Pt.11 awfulAbigor Fractal PossessionThis album is a fucking joke, Abigor stopped releasing quality albums awhile ago but this is just offensive. Here Abigor decide it's a good idea to blend generic tech death ripoff riffs with "industrial avant garde" influences. If you want a laugh listen to this album, if you want to hear good music, see Nachthymen.Dodheimsgard Supervillain OutcastLimp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish...It is pretty safe to say that im not a fan of nu metal. But when just about anyone these days heres the name limp bizkit they get scared. I have heard this album but only delayed in voicing my opinion and i must say its mildly catchy and nothing else. This album fails at life.Paris Hilton ParisTrivium The Crusade0.5 Vanilla Ice To the Extreme
