Raw black metal at it's finest. Great tremolo-picked riffs all throughout. Evil atmosphere. Kickass true black metal at its most primal.

I really want to love this album, but I can only somewhat like it. I have listened to it four times. His voice is tolerable at times and annoying at others (sometimes I can picture slobber running out of his mouth when he sings).
The lyrics are also extremely terrible on this album. Some parts are really cheesy like the end of the song Holy Wars, where he screams "killers" repeatedly and in "Take No Prisoners" where he says something and it is followed by "Permeate them" or "terminate them" in a deep voice.
The main thing though is the music. It may sound like I hate this album because of what I said about his voice and the lyrics, but Dave Mustaine is a great songwriter. The main thing that saves me from disliking this album is that Dave Mustaine is an excellent lead and solo writer. Hangar 18 has some amazing solos in it even though the beginning and main riff of the song sounds like a James Bond rip-off.

This album is melodic death metal at its best. They are similar to Opeth in the aspect that they switch from melodic death metal parts to clean, atmospheric, acoustic passages. Bereavement, Daughter of the Moon, and The Day it All Came Down are the best songs. This is a must-have for any fan of melodic death metal and it is very nice to see bands like this revitalizing the life of the genre.
