Interpol Turn on the Bright Lights
Interpol Antics
This is the one that got me into Interpol in high school all those years ago. I think this album gets punished just for not being the masterpiece that people perceive Turn On The Bright Lights to be. I love the anxious, melancholic mood of this album even though some of the harder to remember songs get lost in it. It has some of Interpol's best work- "Evil," "Slow Hands," "C'mere," "Take You On a Cruise" so don't buy into the albums bad reputation. Interpol's rhythm section on this album is flawless and the production accentuates it.
J. Cole 4 Your Eyez Only
I know J. Cole has become a meme for pretty much everybody on here, but I think many of the opinions about Cole are more in reaction to his fanbase than his music. The fans that go on and on about the whole platinum with no features thing are also, a lot of the time, the ones that say today's rap is trash. As a result, many of the people that disagree with this bold statement are automatically put on the offensive, and transitively, have to hate Cole. rAs you'd assume, I'm not one of those people. I believe this album is a well thought out, fully realized piece of art. I was honestly amazed in how he was able to tell the story of his then recently departed friend's life, while paralleling it with his own. Cole's flow on these tracks is effortless; a lot of the times it feels like he's just talking right to you. Although the track listing is put together in a specific way to tell this story, it never feels forced. rAs for the music, I definitely agree that it shares similarities with Kendrick's TPAB, but write to completely write it off because Cole takes a more traditional approach to incorporating jazz into the music seems dismissive.r

Queens of the Stone Age Lullabies to Paralyze
Songs for the Deaf changed my life as a teenager, so as you can imagine, I was hyped for this LP. My first listen was very disappointing, but after a couple of more spins the record started to reveal itself to me. I do still enjoy the dark feel of this album, but some tracks try a little too hard to be spooky and end up having a cheese factor to them. "Someone's In the Wolf," "Tangled Up In Plaid," and "Little Sister" are some of the best tracks here.

Pretty disappointed with this one. Takes what his last record did right -- introspective lyrics, interesting soundscapes, good pop sensibility -- and trades it for inconsequential lyrics and flat dance beats. Thankfully, the listener gets off easy as the record clocks in at 30 mins.
