Alice in Chains Dirt
Amon Tobin ISAM
Can Tago Mago
Well, there's no doubt this album is really well-crafted. But because of subjective elements, I don't think I can ever give it a 5. Also took me a while to "get" and I gave it a lot of listens, and I wonder if it's got to do with the "mere-exposure" effect. Bonus points for uniqueness. rEDIT: Nevermind I can totally give this a 5.

I think after discovering Devin with this album a few years ago I only ever like it more and more every time I hear it.

Wow. I think I cried the first time I heard this album after "The Death of Music" was over. I've listened to it MANY MANY times now, and I can't believe I didn't rate it before. Beautiful song sequences and transitions (especially Funeral-Bastard-The Death of Music), just all around amazing melodies in all of the songs, and vibrant atmosphere that manages to balance out negative and positive moods. This album is almost flawless.

Frederic Chopin Scherzo No.2, Op.31

I didn't like this right away, but that's the norm for me. I do think this is a perfect album. Some of the songs on here are some instant favorites of mine.
Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
Ludwig van Beethoven Piano Sonata No14 C-sharp minor,Op.27No2
Metallica Ride the Lightning
Fun fact: I'd heard every single song on this on this album in parts and by themselves. Yup, every single one. But this is a record that is definitely best heard as an album - an act I have finally done. I don't think anything else Metallica has put out has been as relatable as this, even though the next couple of records after this are also critically acclaimed. Regardless of what has become of them now, they deserve props for this record. Every song on it is classic.

The Dear Hunter Act II: The Meaning of, & All Things Regarding Ms. Leading
Out of all the Acts, this one is the one that MAKES The Dear Hunter. Classic songs like "Smiling Swine", "Red Hands", "Dear Ms. Leading", and the greatest, "The Lake and the River" are great on their own but also excellent story-telling devices. It's not my personal favorite, but I think overall, it's got to be the objective best.

This album is great. Amazing flow not only in almost all the songs, but also from track to track. EL-P and Killer Mike have AMAZING chemistry. They're totally in-sync throughout, and it really adds to the quality of the album. The production is also pretty good - variation and catchiness of the beats and sounds. The over-production on the vocals/repetition there got annoying, but otherwise this is great. The opener and closer are both the strongest tracks, in my view, but there are good songs sprinkled throughout as well.
Sonic Youth Sister
Strapping Young Lad Alien
Sufjan Stevens Illinois
The Cure Pornography
The Dear Hunter Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional
The Dear Hunter Act IV: Rebirth in Reprise
This was the album that I discovered this band with and came to love them for. It's a stunning release, a bit over the top at times, but thematically and instrumentally refined. Despite entering the middle of the story, it was still gripping rather than tired. The only (small) issue is the ending song, while one of my favorites as a song, is a weird way to end an album.

There are some really compelling songs on here and they really, really work with one another. Beth Hirsch's vocals on a couple of tracks really add to them as well. But the catch is, for me, that there isn't much staying power afterwards. I'd call it good if I could remember upon 2nd or 3rd listen how the songs actually go . I'd still really recommend this.
Alice in Chains The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Devin Townsend Project Ghost
This is a ethereal, ambient album, but it took some growing on me for whatever reason. There were many times that I would start it and not finish it, but it's worth it in the end. Given enough listens, a picture of a soundscape starts to form, and that to me is a mark of a good album.

Johnny Hollow A Collection of Creatures
Reasonably decent album. It wonderfully sets an offbeat, uncomfortable yet compelling darkwave
ambience in the beginning. It takes some comical turns, but it gets a little lazy at the end. The
atmosphere isn't as nuanced, nor is the second half of the CD quite so memorable. A picture is
painted but then faded away.

Saw it on Spotify and thought I'd give it a listen seeing as I loved Songs for the Deaf. I actually liked the melodic structure of a few songs on here, but it's not as ambitious an album as it could have been. With that said, I don't get the total hate - it's not *that* bad.
Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool
Maybe I'm not finding this as impressive as everyone else, but I do like Identikit and Daydream. Burn the Witch is also still a solid single.

The Dear Hunter Act III: Life and Death
Not the strongest of the acts, but still pretty good. Very strong closer, however. The songs themselves are amazing, especially "Mustard Gas" and "Father/Son". However, some of it thematically doesn't match up as strongly as the other acts, despite this album having the most action (besides Act 6).
The Dear Hunter Act I: The Lake South, the River North
Not the strongest album, but a fine opener for a story that's taking root. Weird, weird finale/ending, though. Kind of kills it for me.

AWOLNATION Here Come The Runts
The only thing keeping me from rating this as a 2.5 is that it's clear they bothered to try something new or experiment with this album. In some places (like Stop that Train and Seven Sticks of Dynamite) it works. Other times, I found it more annoying than I thought I would.

Spotify Surf - average waves, here. It's produced well but creatively could stand out more. There were a few moments were I looked up and said, "ah - that's interesting!" but other wise this was sort of easy to tune out.

Spotify gave me this recommendation, seeing as I'm a Tool fan. There are some good tracks on here, but overall really average and too much of a second rate version of Tool. Musicians should be a first-rate version of themselves.
