A Lot Like Birds No Place
Probably my favourite album. Blends great lyrics (the concept I could care for less), suitably complex instrumentation, and a foreboding, ethereal atmosphere that just draws me in. rI'm not saying it's for everyone, but it works for me. It's a testament to the band that even after almost a year I listen to this record and still love it as much as I did when it was a new release. rI don't think I can ever get sick of my highlights: No Nurture, Hand Over Mouth, Over and Over, Kuroi Ledge, and my personal favourite Shaking of the Frame.

The songs themselves don't get me roaring, but the story and the lyrics are superbly written, an emotional album for sure.rEdit: this album has really grown on me.
Arcane Roots Landslide EP
A fitting ending to Arcane Roots. Melancholia Hymns was my favourite album of the last few years so I was very keen to hear some more electronic stylings of some of the songs off it. Parts are very recognisable whereas other bits are completely new and that's where this EP shines. I just wish we could get more out of these guys.

This album keeps on growing on me. Each listen another song becomes a new favourite. Soon I will absolutely love each and every song. Check Marigold, Rust and Undergrowth. But seriously, such a strong band.

Subtle and melancholy, but serene. I think this is a slight step down from Able Bodies, but am over the moon to get another cracking album from these gents. Absolutely adore Runner, Sleeping Limbs, Breathe Desperately and Awful Things. And maybe Fog too. Why not just list the entire album at this point, hey?

I know it's early to give a 5 but when the band is your favourite and has been for so long, it's hard to think of this as anything but amazing. Sure there are things I wish they did differently but it's just so catchy and fun, and I'm fully satisfied with it.

The Contortionist Language
Having never heard The Contortionist prior to listening to the atmospheric Language I when it was released, I quickly put Language towards the top of my anticipated albums of 2014. Then, when it came out, I found myself severely disappointed. It felt so boring and lackluster, like it was happy to coast on nothing but filler. But then, after each play, it made that much more sense, until finally I felt the grooves, fell in love with the heavier parts (which were some of my least favourite sections), and just 'got' the album. I can't stop listening to the second half of the Parable - some powerful stuff. But, seriously, such a great album. Out of nowhere (for me), this is a contender for AOTY.

Was not expecting big things from this. While it's not rrevolutionary, they play to their strengths. The back half rof the record is my personal favourite, especially Exodus. rThat track is huge and I can't get enough. Might drop to a r4 in time, but I'm really enjoying it so far.rEDIT: I've not stopped listening to this. It's great. rHighlights are Castles in the Air, Dark Horses, rDreamer/Parallels, Baby Bird/Effigy, and especially rExodus.

Got this early as I backed it way back. And considering No rPlace is probably my favourite album and I loved the rsofter songs the most, there was no question whether I rwould like this or not. Fantastic album, a real grower rtoo. Only wish it was longer. Will probably review this rwhen I get a chance.rEDIT: The other reviews do a fine job. I won't be rreviewing this one.

For a local band in my city, these guys pack a serious punch. The songs translate amazing live and I hope they make it big!
Dyssidia Children of Aether and Earth
Watched them launch this EP last night and they are phenomenal live. The singer's screams sound a little weak on the disc but everything is on point at a show. Otherwise, love this.
Eidola Degeneraterra
The high points of this album are really high. The last two minutes of third temple is so beautiful. Album is unnecessarily long, though. Favourite tracks: Second & Third Temple, and De Coelesti Hierarchia.

Hands Like Houses -Anon.
A good album. A fun album. I might be biased in saying this is good because Hands Like Houses
have been my favourite band for a long time, but this is undoubtedly a serious dip in quality.
Everything on here is catchy and fun. Very diverse songs (if not in song structures) but there is
just no depth here. These guys used to border on being slightly progressive if only in thought and
inspiration, and yet this album (and Dissonants) is nothing more than a fun jam.

Silverstein don't seem to be slowing down. Perhaps not as consistent as TIHTWS, but continuing a similar trend in quality music. I agree with the idea that the songs are more balanced and would argue the more 'punk/hardcore' songs are a bit subpar compared to their usual self but, man, late on 6th, desert nights, and Toronto are amazing.
