5.0 classic
Circa Survive Blue Sky Noise
Converge Jane Doe
David Newman and Van Dyke Parks The Brave Little Toaster
A classic soundtrack to a classic film, animated or otherwise. Romantic, sweeping and full of emotion describes the score, while the songs are some of the most fun and catchy you'll ever hear in a musical-based film.
Dream Theater Images and Words
Dream Theater A Dramatic Turn of Events
Equals Images and Words in melody, musicianship, creativity and emotional depth.
Jeff Buckley Grace
John Williams A.I.: Artificial Intelligence
Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kraftwerk Trans-Europe Express
Linkin Park A Thousand Suns
An album that confronts modern-day issues of technology fearlessly and creatively. Hybrid Theory may be one of the best nu-metal albums, but this album may go down as LP's best and most misunderstood record.
Marco Beltrami Knowing: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
My favorite film score to my absolute favorite movie. This score is nearly prog in its complexity and intertwining of themes.
Metallica ...And Justice for All
MGMT Congratulations
Greatly expands on the psychedelic tendencies of the latter half of Oracular Spectacular, and is all the better for it. A twisted reflection on fame and popularity in the music world.
Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells
Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Nine Inch Nails The Downward Spiral
Nirvana Nevermind
Nirvana In Utero
Philip Glass Koyaanisqatsi
Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd Animals
Porcupine Tree The Incident
A much more personal and haunting record than Fear of a Blank Planet ever was. Steven Wilson said he wanted FoaBP to be a "50-minute piece of continuous music", but that record had plenty of gaps between tracks. This, however, fulfills that promise more than adequately. Sound quality is better, too.
Public Enemy Fear of a Black Planet
Radiohead OK Computer
Radiohead Kid A
Rage Against the Machine Rage Against the Machine
Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik
Refused The Shape of Punk to Come
Rush Hemispheres
Starcastle Fountains of Light
An often overlooked prog record simply because "it sounds too much like Yes". I say, bring it on!
Sufjan Stevens The Age of Adz
One of the craziest and most emotional electronic records ever recorded.
The Beatles Abbey Road
The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Beatles The Beatles
The Who Who's Next
Thomas Newman Wall-E
Uriah Heep Demons and Wizards
Utopia Todd Rundgren's Utopia
Yes Fragile
Yes Close to the Edge

4.5 superb
Andrew Lloyd Webber Jesus Christ Superstar: Original Cast
Arcade Fire Reflektor
Architects Ruin
Beck Midnite Vultures
Beck The Information
Bring Me the Horizon Sempiternal
Coldplay Mylo Xyloto
A true evolution of the sonic textures of Viva la Vida, all wrapped up in a tragic (and ultimately hopeful) concept album about love, loss and moving on.
Daft Punk Discovery
Daft Punk Random Access Memories
Damien Rice My Favourite Faded Fantasy
Deftones Diamond Eyes
Deftones Koi No Yokan
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms
Dream Theater Awake
Dream Theater Black Clouds & Silver Linings
One of the best of latter-day DT. Their "comeback" album, much like Metallica's Death Magnetic.
East of the Wall Redaction Artifacts
Elton John Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
Enter Shikari A Flash Flood of Colour
The best mix of metalcore and dubstep yet produced, with some of the best political lyrics this side of RATM. Also has a major prog edge to the songwriting structure.
Fair to Midland Arrows and Anchors
Faith No More The Real Thing
Fear Factory Demanufacture
Flying Lotus Cosmogramma
From First to Last Throne to the Wolves
Touches on social and cultural topics never thought possible from a band like this. A post-hardcore album that criticizes other post-hardcore albums.
Gazelle Twin Unflesh
Green Day 21st Century Breakdown
An extremely misunderstood record. The amount of work the band put into this one is astonishing, and the lyrics are better written than American Idiot. Sure, it's varied in content, but that's what makes it work so well. Possibly Green Day's most relevant album.
Green Day Dookie
Haken The Mountain
Hans Zimmer Inception
Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard The Dark Knight
Harry Nilsson The Point!
Helmet Meantime
It's a Beautiful Day It's a Beatiful Day
James Horner Avatar
Janelle Monae The ArchAndroid
Jean Michel Jarre Oxygene
John Carpenter Halloween
Justin Timberlake The 20/20 Experience
Kanye West The College Dropout
Kate Bush Hounds of Love
Korn Follow the Leader
One of the cornerstones of nu-metal. Very well recorded and mixed as well.

This has a lot of cool rhythms and textures, there's just nothing here to really grab the listener in terms of memorable melodies. The mastering may be partly to blame; everything sounds fairly thin for a disco-influenced pop album like this.

They sound a lot more Of Montreal-ish on this one. Which is fine if you're a fan of that band, but I liked their
previous albums a bit more because they had a good, classic psych sound going; it wasn't anything hugely
special, but this one loses some of that sound.

Not a terrible record per se, but it sounds like every other Pretty Lights-aping "college dorm" electronica made in the past 5-7 years. Also, the engineering here is too polished and overproduced; the synths and kick drums sound too bright to really have any impact.
