Everything At Once
A good Travis album, probably their best in quite some time. Rocking guitars are back on a few tracks,
melodies are as bright and catchy as ever. Magnificent Time however is so saccharine it approaches the level
of Shiny Happy People. This is also a very brisk, short album.
Drake's Hold On We're Going Home is certainly on of the best mainstream pop singles I've ever heard, so I had high hopes for Majid Jordan's full length. Unfortunately it doesn't measure up. Some good cuts here and there but a mostly average album. "Small Talk" is a standout and recaptures Hold On...'s vibe, too bad the rest of the album doesn't good. There's potential here for sure.
Strong album, the best Suede has released since Dog Man Star. A few weak songs here and there, but the strongest songs are among their best.
I (along with the rest of the world apparently) loved the first single Hello. Unfortunately, the album while serviceable, doesn't live up to that single's amazing potential. She still has a stunning voice but the album is incredibly formulaic. River Lea and Sweetest Devotion are highlights for me, as they don't follow the typical piano balladry of the album and are good songs in their own right.
Make no mistake- this is a straight up, full on pop album. Ellie Goulding wants to compete with the likes of Taylor Swift. Her ever so slightly experimental sound from Halcyon is gone. But there are some solid tracks here. Aftertaste, Something In The Way You Move, and Holding On for Life all have killer hooks and production. Not a complete waste, but a disappointment, especially considering how she used to sound.
Some really good songs and some improvements over the similarly decent I Love You. Cry Baby is really weak; way too poppy and top 40 sounding. Some bad lyrics here and there. But if you dig their debut you will like this one. Daddy Issues and The Beach are highlights. A couple of songs have a surprisingly experimental vibe (Wiped Out!, Baby Come Home/Valentine). It's a decent album with a handful of highlights but quite a few weaknesses as well.
