Although their brand of Post-Hardcore is nothing new, Secrets' debut album The Ascent sees a young band with much potential establish themselves quite well. Some great hooks are spread throughout the record.

What we have here is a generic, but fun sounding album that outdoes most of bands in this genre even though it wanders without a reason. The vocals aren't all impressive and seem half ass. Still, this band might have potential beating the odds of their competition. You're way better off with this album over ATTACK ATTACK! rJust listen to "Melodies" and try not to hum it out loud.

A pretty generic metalcore/post-hardcore rise album with some notable clean singing and catchy hooks, along with some pretty boring chug-a-lug exercises. The Ascent has its occasional bright moments, but fails to at all deviate from the typical genre characteristics all these bands seem to share.

ughh. I hear that clean singers voice and some of these catchy hooks, and then i hear the endless parade of generic chug a long breakdowns and I want to die! It's a waste. So many bands keep throwing this recycled material at us. At least make the breakdowns interesting like wow. A couple tolerable songs(the ones with the least chug chug).Bad album.

Rise disappoints once again. Oh well, it was bound to happen. Better luck next time.

While not being ground-breaking, Secrets manages to pull off a pretty satisfying album. "The Best You Can't Be" is definatley a highlight, were the clean vocals shine supreme. Overall it's not a bad debut, and the band's clean vocalist is superb for the genre.

This being their debut album, I wasn't expecting to be completely blown away by it. And I was
not at all. The record would have been stronger for me if they kept off the three songs released in
early 2011 (The Oath, Somewhere in Hiding, 40 Below) and replaced them with newer tracks.
While they are some of the better tracks on the album, they've been out in the wild for almost a
year now and the album versions hardly differed from that of the demos.
That being said, The Ascent is still a fun listen and should be enjoyed by all fans of this genre.

I'm going with the other comment here, pretty generic but we gotta accept that this is better than a few band out there. Pretty listenable album.

strictly average. over do the chugging, songs get repetitive and boring. well, the clean vocalist has a pretty decent voice and he knows it - some hooks are very effective. download this album if you have nothing else to listen to

a little bit generic (so much chugging), but the clean vocalist's ability to craft some great hooks makes this an album worth giving a spin
