Looks like they've done it again: Keep You Close, dEUS' 6th, is a magnificent album (it could very well be called a true masterpiece), and one that should be heard by as many people as possible. Perhaps the best alternative rock album to have come out in 2011, it's also another highlight for a 20 year old band of experienced professionals, who keep coming up with absolutely splendid material. 36 listens in and it keeps getting better and better.
Keep You Close is basically dEUS' last step in fully removing the burden of the 'progressive rock' tag that they have been carrying with them from the very beginning of their career. Keep you Close is much like Vantage Point in that it is very much a strange, experimental journey through various melodic arrangements. This album however manages to maintain that delightful atmosphere during the whole record, ultimately becoming a stronger, more mature record. While the loss of progressive elements made you feel like there was something missing on Vantage Point, it's the exact same thing that makes Keep You Close such an amazingly powerful and varied effort. A true alt rock masterpiece.
