This album is borderline exhausting. The music is good, almost too good. The production is thick and shiny. There's no doubting this band's capabilities and there are numerous highlights from the soaring riffs to the shouted gang vocals throughout, I'm just a little off-put by the mechanical precision of the record as a whole. The vocalist at times reminds me a bit too much of Fair To Midland, though I personally feel he delivers a tighter performance.
On the first listen, I was a bit surprised when I found out they didn't use screams anymore, but that's not a step down. I just hope they'll improve composition. The songs are kinda chaotic. Anyway, this band has a huge potential. I'm looking forward to a new album.
Its not the quality of the vocals that I think detracts me from this, but how the vocalist uses it. He can sing...but it sounds to me like he tries too hard. He was much better live, but until that can translate to a studio album there will be much to be desired from him. I kind of feel that this applies to the whole band though. They're either doing too much or too little. So its a 3.5 for me just because they don't seem to be using their talents 100% perfectly yet.
