The good - "Break On Through (To The Other Side)", "The End", and "Light My Fire" are all excellent. The bad - everything else. The Doors were, musically, an average band. They were prone to a nice solo every so often, and they excel on "The End" (a rare event), but other than that, they were always going to be defined by whoever their singer was. Unlucky for them, their singer was one of the most insufferable morons in the history of music. Occasionally, Jim Morrison could produce flashes of genius, but far too often, his lyrics read as 4th form psycho-babble, and are sung as if we're supposed to believe that he's imparting wisdom from the Gods. Frustrated, confused teenagers may well identify with him perfectly. But this is not for me.

I hated this album upon first listen, but now it remains in my cd player for such extended periods of time that I've actually lost the cd case for it! So many Doors classics on here practicaly every track is an epic.
The only fault I can possibly find is that you have to be in a certain mood to listen to the slow relaxing rythyms of the band, but I s'posse thats my fault not the albums.

This deserves a classic rating. One of the best debut rock/psychedelic albums of all time. Morrison's vocals are both majestic and mysterious, especially on 'The End', one of the best songs ever written. Throw in 'Light My Fire', 'Break on Through', 'Soul Kitchen' and 'Alabama Song' and this becomes essential

'The End' is a geniune masterpiece, a dark-psychadelic take on the end of the 1960s. 'Break On Through' is a tight, whisky soaked gem and 'Light My Fire' is the type of shadowy vocals and spidery music that The Doors would become renowned for. However, there isn't much else and, despite general perception, it isn't a touching-the-zeitgeist masterpiece.

Philosophical, psychedelic and absolutely phenomenal. The keyboard work was so many years ahead of its time with lyrics that are so profound and hypnotizing. They just keep getting better the more you listen.

About as good an album as you can find. Jim Morrison's poety, Ray Manzarek's amazing keyboard skills, John Densmore and Robby Krieger showing their mastery of their instruments. All of these are the formula for the success of this album. I can't think of one bad song on this album. Even the less popular songs like "End Of The Night", "Twentieth Century Fox", and "Back Door Man" are fantastic and go perfectly with the album. The big hits like "Break On Through", "Light My Fire", "The Crystal Ship", and "The End" add to the dark/haunting yet poetic flow of the entire album. This could seriously be considered the greatest album of all-time.

It may not be their best album, but it's close to it. The first two songs are premium Doors material, and there are many other songs on here that were big hits for the Doors, especially Light My Fire and The End. Both of these are classic songs by the way.
