The most important thing to remember about The Color Spectrum LP is that it is, for all intents and purposes, a sampler plate for a nine EP collection. As such, there's really no cohesion between the material here, leaving instead eleven disconnected tracks to review on their own individual merit. If taken in these terms, The Color Spectrum LP is a success, though likely a divisive one, as its "everything-for-everyone" aims may alienate those hoping for the (slightly) more restrained and focused outputs of Crescenzo's Act series. Thankfully, this variety also leads to a number of unexpected highlights, and what those highlights are will largely depend on what you come to The Dear Hunter for (for my part, I surprisingly fell in love with the indie-pop "She's Always Singing", the theatrical and bombastic "Lillian", and the "Red Hands"-in-a-box flair of "Home). It's no Act IV, but it's certainly an ample diversion.

This is only a 'best of' collection from the entire collection. The whole album is a far more rewarding listen and offers up countless gems that are absent here.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this sampler is the best thing that the Dear Hunter have ever released.

Allowing listeners to sample the complete collection of 'The Color Spectrum', this 11 track release cuts the running time down from 144 minutes to just 42. Including at least 1 track from each of the 9 EPs, this compilation flows remarkably well considering the diverse array of musical styles showcased here. It is that cohesion, as well as their representation of the various colors, which these tracks have been chosen for, since they are not necessarily the best each EP has to offer. There's still plenty of quality though & it does make for an intriguing preview of the main event. Recommended Tracks: Deny It All, Home, Lillian & But There's Wolves?.

whether or not you can easily listen to every genre that the dear hunter has laid out here in the color spectrum, you can certainly not deny the talent and creativity that has been poured into this album. its not necessarily an original idea but i believe the dear hunter has really nailed this one. it makes me strongly anticipate act IV

It's got some absolutely incredible tracks and some pretty skippable ones. Doesn't really sound like the rest of the discography which is pretty great while at the same time pretty lame. Either way Casey is a fucking beast and I'm gonna wear this out this summer so yeah.
