Revisiting the past without simply re-hashing it, Blaspherian combine old school death metal influences into a new spirit. The sound fits in solidly with the Obituary, Incantation, Deicide, Immolation and Asphyx style of rhythmic death and doom-death metal, but where previous death metal emphasized a chaotic form of evil, Blaspherian exudes a sense of deliberate cunning and will to undermine. These detuned riffs are simple but fit together in labyrinthine exchanges over which a partially chorus/verse lyric structure rambles. Percussion, reminiscent of early Incantation, matches a vocal performance worthy of the first two Immolation records, and riff styles range through the gamut of European and American death metal, with an emphasis on simple recursive structures that build a cavernous atmosphere. The result is detached, inhuman, and massively evil.
