It's not hard to imagine just how brilliant this must have sounded back in the day - that snare on "Like A Rolling Stone" must have been like a gavel being slammed on pop's past and rock's future. Still, I can't help but feel like I've grown out of this album with time, and so too has music as a whole. For pure song strength there's no way this should be considered Dylan's best, or even in his top five. "Like a Rolling Stone" and "Desolation Row" still cut through the ages, but much of the rest is held back by the excitement of the new, the failure to acknowledge the timeless, and most irritatingly of all, a lead guitarist who clearly had no idea how to tune his instrument. If you're new to Dylan, start elsewhere - Desire aside, each of his other canonic albums deserves its place in history more than this does.

Not quite Dylan's best but in the top 3. Certainly has one of the best opener/closer combinations ever, with 'Desolation Row' possibly being the genius' best song. The rest of the album isn't half bad either.

Finishing and ending with a masterpiece, 'Highway 61 Revisited' smoothly combines folk and blues to offer such works as 'Like A Rolling Stone', the soft, sad-eyed 'It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry', the sly 'Ballad of a Thin Man' and the majestic 'Desolation Row', possibly Dylan's greatest work. The smirking garage rock on 'Tombstone Blues', 'From A Buick 6' and the hilarious Biblical 'Highway 61 Revisited' ensure that the album isn't too serious, and only add to the greatness.

Although this record contains some of the best tracks ever written (such as Desolation Row and Like a Rolling Stone), it still lacks a little something that makes it a 5. Variables that keeps it from being so, are tracks like Queen Jane Approximately and From a Buick 6, which just aren't as good as the rest, the first one being too long for it's own good.

Of bob dylan's work this still reigns as my favorite LP. The since a vast majority of his work is consolidated only to the acoustic, it sounds absolutely marvelous with an electric guitar.

"Like a Rolling Stone" was named by Rolling Stone magazine as the greatest song of all time. I can see where they're coming from. Then there's the 7 others track of folk-rock perfection ("Desolation Row" being the other major highlight), which make this an absolute masterpiece. 'Blood on the Tracks' nothing, this is Dylan's best album.

Bob Dylan is a genius, there's no way around it. His song writing prowess is ingenius. His lyrical ability is mind blowing. As Bruce Springsteen said "The first time I heard Bob Dylan was like someone kicked down the door to my mind". I dont think that's any truer than for Like a Rolling stone. It is in a word...Transcendant. Its a bluesy CD with some of the greatest songs ever writtin inside it. Listen to it..NOW

Highway 61 Revisited and Blood on the Tracks are Bob Dylans two very best albums and I can't decide which i prefer because they are both classic wonderful albums! But this album is such a classic. Dylan is one of THE BEST songwriters of all time and songs like desolation row and like a rolling stone are of some the best songs ever.

Bob Dylan, one of, if not the greatest poet and musician in modern history, hit his high point with the release of Highway 61 Revisited. Not a single bad, or even an average track on the entire album make this album a classic. Often voted one of the greatest albums of all time, anyone could see why when you pick this up.
