It sounds brutal, yes, but I never get into the record. The sound is too remote, I'd like to get sucked into the music, be part of it, and I don't get the feeling that Krieg wants that to happen. Some really good songs, but in the end it doesn't do it for me.
Although they aren't really apparent until a few listens in, there are some very fine moments on this album. One of the more underrated black metal albums of the past few years.
