For all those who are sick and tired of *insert well-know metal band here* having so much hype for their new album *insert album name here* that turns out to be boring and disappointing, just listen to Paracletus, and you will know that the late months of 2010 are not all lost. Deathspell Omega have released here what is arguably the most focused and consistent album of their career, one that takes the ideas of the first two albums in their trilogy Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice and Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum, sifts through them, and presents on Paracletus the very best of both worlds in a tidy 42 minutes. The mind-boggling technical guitar riffs work alongside slow melodies that aren't fruity and gay, but instead appeal to the album's distinct atmosphere. If you don't like Paracletus, then by all means return to the Marrow Of The Spirit circle jerk. You won't be missed over here, I can assure you that.

I agree with Passname 100%. This album received tons of praising reviews since it was released a month ago or so. Personally I found it quite boring. There is no balance between descent songwriting and experimentation. The band seems to emphasize on playing different but completely forgets that music is not a race of innovation but a race of musical composition and songwriting. Here we have atonal riffs, then again more weird atonal riffs, then again atonal riffs and then maybe some descent riffs or descent bizarre melodies. For me, this is the perfect example of hype. Once some people praise an album, the others follow and the hype is created. No tune,riff or melody can stick to the listener's ear apart from minor exceptions (i.e. the last track )

The more I listen to it the more I like it. And almost 3 years after I notice I put it on almost weekly. For me this might be the best black metal album ever.

This Black Metal album is extremely dark and the musicianship is virtually unrivaled by these veterans of the game. Definitely their masterwork.

This album has a bunch of great ideas and great moments, but they are unfortunately thrown
in together with a myriad of chaotic, nonsensical moments that just about every black metal
and death metal band has and completely strips away anything unique this album had going for
it. When will bands like this learn that raping your instrument isn't original anymore, nor
was it ever original to begin with. Truly talented musicians know how to contain their
instruments.

What a special album, this feels like a really big song put toghether instead of an entire
album, and that's fantastic in my view. The drumming is the true meaning of insanity, the
atmosphere is brutal and dark, this is a memorable record.

the album is hard to absorb at first , but after a few spins , it turns out to be very gud, it is more inclined towards progressive rather than avant garde, even hard rock guitar riffs in some places , but overall a great album and strong contender of the best metal album of the year..... But those who expect that Dso has finally produced an album better than " si monumentum requiris circumspice " will have to wait for their next trilogy.
