Flying Lotus is sick as hell, simple as that. Nothing about this is slight.

If nothing else, Pattern + Grid World is Flying Lotus' noisiest, most jittery affair. The glitch hop he works with is in full effect here, and the addition of a chiptune influence into the mix, it's quite unlike anything he's done. There's no clear-cut best track on the record, but they're all a pretty solid mixture of noisy, skippy, and ultimately pretty layered IDM. The tracks don't really bleed into each other too much due to the variations seen within the songs, but it's not an incoherent mess either. It's really just FlyLo tinkering and exploring with his sound a bit, and the result is pretty nice.

Alternate sounds that seem to be out takes from Cosmogramma, fun beats for the whole family!

The best parts of Cosmogramma are here, albeit less in the forefront. The album really listens more like Until the Quiet Comes, because the songs are very similar to UTQC and his earlier dance music tonally. However, the structures are much more like Putty Boy Strut or his dancier songs on Cosmogramma than the majority of UTQC. It's got a lot of nuances in the background, but keeps everything fast paced and beat centered. This is easily one of his best works.

All the facets of FlyLo's style injected into one cool, accessible, little EP.

Pattern + Grid World is a bit confusing for me after the masterpiece "Cosmogramma". There are 2 outstanding tracks ("Kill Your Co-Workers" with its uptempo beat and catchy 8-bit melody and head-nodding "Camera Day") two really good ("Jurassic Notion/M Theory which shows FlyLo's unique way of working with percussion and the last track: beautiful noise/synth madness "Physics for Everyone!"). The rest is average, but overally it was a tasty dessert after an exquisite dinner.

flying lotus can do no wrong. mesmerizing ep, with its own personality and quirks.

FlyLo's artistry is bogged down here only by incoherency, but yeah it's still no Cosmo.
