If you expected this to be a pop-punk record from these guys, then of course you're going to despise the album. It's campy and hokey, but it's absolutely a fun record to listen to. Plus: best dudes ever.
You can see what the band was going for here, Summer pop-punk designed to be played through the convertible on your next drive to the shore. 'California Kicks' is a lazy, "heard it all before" album that could've been something more, but instead is harder to listen too than enjoy, and never does anything to give this band any sort of further credit you might have given them.
