Famously written for his mother while she lay in a hospital bed, Colma is Buckethead's first of many soft outings. It's also one of the strongest releases in his discography; nearly any song from this record can be counted among his best. The material ranges from acoustic rock ("For Mom") to solo guitar pieces ("Watching the Boats with My Dad") to dark ambient (the title track). There are Buckethead's idiosyncratic touches, too: the hip-hop flavoured "Sanctum;" the spacey, delayed guitar-shredder "Big Sur Moon." A wonderful record.
