Everytime I hear "Ridin' Solo" (among other radio shit), I want to stab things into my ears. Everything sounds the same, and the lyrics are terrible. We are well on our way to fulfilling the movie Idiocracy.
His voice is just so outrageously obnoxious on songs like "Ridin Solo" that not even the terribly forced "i luv da txt spk" lyrics and the obvious attempts at grabbin' the cash money can seem nuisances. I'm not really sure if that's a good thing or not.
Though his voice is fairly unspectacular, Derulo is undeniably good at writing catchy pop songs. The singles from this album blend grooving, finger snapping R&B with sleek, guitar led pop rock, but most of the other tracks are synth-powered explosions of euphoric pop or morose piano ballads. A mixed bag, but one packing enough infectious tunes to indicate a very successful future.
