3.0 good | fran tall ear | September 12th 22 | early Manics lives and dies on the power of the lyrics. here they are fucking lethal! otoh the only musician in this band who does anything is JDB which means there's too much room in these glam rock-finished tunes and not enough accompaniment to fill it

0.0 | PlasticRadioBand | May 22nd 16 | The long lost third Use Your Illusion album. Too bad it doesn't contain a powerballad as enthralling as Novermber Rain or an epic 10 minute song about overdosing like Coma. But still an overall superb listen for any walk of life who knows what a piss christ is

4.0 excellent | becomesmusical | November 28th 15 | Cut this bad boy in half and you have one of the greatest rock debuts ever. The bloated original, though, is still worth a listen; one can't help but appreciate the ambition that drives this record, even if a number of tracks don't fully deliver on their promise.

5.0 classic | MaggieG | September 8th 14 | Everybody normally associates the Manic Street Preachers with radio friendly Britpop hits like 'A Design for Life' and 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next' though rewind back to the early 90s and they were a much different band. Originally a hard rock outfit with punk influences, the Manics gained a large cult following with their first three albums mainly because of their now missing rhythm guitarist and ghost frontman Richey Edwards. Generation Terrorists is a very bombastic and heavy debut album that mixes in a Brit punk attitude and socialist philosophy with glam metal riffs and delivers a strong over the top album that shocked the British music scene with its 18 tracks filled with a that displayed a cocky middle finger to mainstream music. 'Motorcycle Emptiness' however proves that they could write a heartfelt ballad in the midst of all the heavy rock this album throws at you. This is one of my favourite albums of all time and definitely worth a listen to those who haven't heard any of the band's Richey era material.

3.5 great | Iai EMERITUS | February 21st 07 | Realistically, this album was never going to sell the 20 million copies its creators said it would. Even so, it's a damn good album, ruined only slightly by the bloated length. The glam rock aesthetic and politically aware consciousness make for an album that's fun without being disposable, and intellectual without disappearing up its own backside. "Slash N' Burn", "Little Baby Nothing", and of course "Motorcycle Emptiness" are all fantastic songs, but the album does tail off at point - two versions of "Repeat" is slightly un-necessary, and some of the songs towards the "Damn Dog"/"Crucifix Kiss" end of things are utterly unmemorable. Still, trimmed down to 12 songs, this would have been one of the very finest debuts of the 90s, and for that alone it's worth owning.
