good idea. Then snuggle up next to her on the couch. When the first pause comes, a whisper

A step up from their debut, even though their debut is excellent, this album takes the innovative elements from their previous work and take them to new heights in Selfish Machines. The instrumentation is improved. In the boring genre of "scene" post hardcore, this stands out despite the high pitched voice of Vic Fuentes, the vocalist and guitarist. Lyrics are hit and miss on certain songs. Some may be turned off by the vocals because Vic sounds like he's straining his voice on some parts, but others may see it as the passion of his voice.

Guitars are frantic and ridiculously good. Wasn't a fan of their debut. But this has me hooked to Vic's voice.

With excellent technicality, powerful and varied songwriting, well thought out and sometimes haunting lyricism, along with speedy guitar and drums, Pierce the Veil have put forth a fantastic album, which is also both aided and harmed by the vocals, but the majority of the time his voice aids the sound and helps bring it to a new level.

In the ever growing list of high pitched vocalists (ex. A Skylit Drive, Sleeping With Sirens, etc.) lead vocalist, Vic Fuentes maybe the one of the strongest on scene. The experimental sound blends nicely with his heart bearing voice. It's true the lyrics and sometimes come off as cliched and generic and I agree at times it feels a bit whiny, but I think that's what helps make the music feel real and unreal at the same time. It's a stronger album in general, even with the obvious poppy hooks and the occasional cliched "diary" lyrics, the music does make it clear what it's trying to convey. Life is tough, love can be rough, but you can always build yourself back up.

After another few listens of this album I can now admit that I do enjoy it, despite the heavier feel in some songs it still retains the charm of the Pierce the Veil that "A Flair for the Dramatic" made us adore. Yet, it still lacks a song like "The Balcony Scene" which always acted as nice light song.

A superb output from this truly unique Post-hardcore band, with much improved backing vocals, the standard cryptic lyrics courtesy of Vic Fuentes and a much more improved guitar work, the only detraction? People might find vic's vocals whiney but they can be an aquired taste; "Carapharnelia" might just be this band finest song, and thats saying something
