Despite the time between this and Nevermore's last album, Conspiracy comes off as one of the laziest records of the year, only relying on a catchy guitar solo, or a repeating chorus (all of them are terrible, actually). While I was hoping this would be a perfect cross between the ballad type of material from Dead Heart and the thrash-y type of stuff from This Godless Endeavor, each song simply picked a side never attempting to combine the two. This resulted in an extremely boring compilation of songs. Given the magnitude of Nevermore and my joy for their previous work, it adds even more to the disappointment that Conspiracy really is.
Opinions may be divided as to whether this is an improvement or a retrograde step in quality for a band that is as historically consistent as Nevermore, but I have enjoyed every single spin of the deck (well, every play on the iPod). Go and buy it/download it for yourself and make your own mind up. Again, and for what little it is worth, I am still a fan.
