I wasn't full of confidence about the upcoming release from Veil of Maya. However on getting the album, the Sumarian breed of Sci-Fi-esque lead and chugging underscores provides a very interesting listen that at times is captivating. The riffs are well thought out throughout, with interesting synth parts noticeably in the track Resistance. The Faceless' Michael Keene's mixing is superb, and he has had a noticeable influence on the bands sound, as echoing, almost eerie long notes throw back to Faceless' last release Planetary Duality.
One quibble I had with this album is that yet again the Veil of Maya boys put more than one instrumental on, wasting song space for what are really similar tracks in [id], Martyrs and Circle. Also, though the lyrics at times are well written, they have a habit of becoming lost in basic chants of the song title, and mass repetition of the main line. Though not really a sin in the music world, it detracts from the potential of a very lyrically able Brandon Butler.
Overall, this album exceeds Common Man's Collapse in almost every way by maturing the untamed technical fury that was released by the 2008 album, but minor imperfections stop this from being the masterpiece it could have been. Nonetheless, it is a brilliant album preceding what looks like a year of many brilliant albums

i just realized why i like this if you listen to it closely like for example the start of the higler it sounds alot like the black dahlia murder and im a mass fan of them haha, but yeah this album is deffinately a step in a better direction for VOM and its good to see they have stuck with the style they were with and establishing it as their own

Veil of Maya manage to improve upon everything that has plagued them in the past, they manage to improve their riffage, and the vocalist has improved his chops. The band also seems to have taken cue from The Faceless and has added a nice Sci-Fi atmosphere to most songs. The only problem I see with the album is there are still too many breakdowns, and they actually kill the groove every once in a while.

Veil of Maya improve from their sophomore release, The Common Man's Collapse, reaching even rhigher levels of technicality than before. It's very clear that guitarist Marc Okubo and rdrummer Sam Applebaum are ridiculously talented, but some of the more glorious moments on rthe album (ex: Mowgli and Conquer) are lost in a contrived sea of Meshuggah posturing that rjust serves the purpose of getting the scene kids jumping. Veil of Maya is dangerously close rto realizing their potential as a legitimate progressive metal band, they just need to flesh rout their songs more and use a much less thin production to their mix. But the more melodic rsongs are definitely worth your attention.

Only complaint I have is that I personally feel like this album is too short! Otherwise it's fantastic, just what you would expect from VOM.

Veil of Maya's 2nd album has the same strengths and weaknesses as the 1st album but pushed a little further. The strong songs are very obvious, and the weak songs continue to be kind of blatantly bland and not really evoking any particular emotion. That said, the strong songs do generally feel like accomplishments and solidify this band as a staple in their scene, it's just kind of unfortunate that their albums vary quite a bit in quality between tracks. Also, the lyrics were worse here compared to that of their previous vocalist. Recommended tracks: First 3 tracks + Mowgli into Namaste.

When i took a first look at Veil of Maya it was one of my friends favorite bands. So, I decided to check them out and the outcome looked good. It reminded me of a similar band ep "The New Reign". Veil of Maya's Id album is full of djent riffs and great production quality. They are one of the better deathcore bands out there. The few complaints i have with the album is that if you cut out a few songs the album would be much better. I feel as if they had good ideas with songs such as "Resistance" and "Mowgli". The others songs such as "Circle" "Id" "The Highler" were scraps of the band's lack of creativity. This album this is a step in the right direction but this band needs to pick up the feel of creating a experience for a longer lasting appeal.

This is my favourite VoM album of all time. It appears to be a much stronger release, in
comparison of The Common Man's Collapse which had more focus on the metalcore side of their
music, which shows that VoM are progressing. VoM have taken on writing stronger, more
instrumentaly fast-paced and technical music consistantly thoughout. The consistently heavy
sound may be a turn-off for listeners, as it was with JFAC's Genesis. VoM can't be any
different. This is basicly VoM's previous record, without the obvious flaws.
