Green Album is Weezer's third studio album. At the time, it was River's chance to redeem himself from his previous disastrous album, Pinkerton, which is now regarded by many as the best work from Weezer. Green Album, although not Weezer's greatest album, still stands out on its own. Like Pinkerton, and Blue Album, if you hear a random song from Green Album, you will know that it is from the Green Album. Most of the songs are congruent in sound but not in substance. The only two that really stand out is Hash Pipe and Island In The Sun. The rest can all be listen to in one sitting and one might think its one big song. This can be looked upon positively or negatively. I look upon it positively. The songs aren't clones of each other, more like episodes of an interesting distinguishable television series. Each song has something to offer if you are willing to listen. Most of the music is simple power chords with lead riffs to distinguish the songs. Straight up basic rock formation, with a solo before the final chorus. The lyrics aren't as emotional or personal as Pinkerton, they are just cutesy-utesy, "I just want your love" or "Everybody wants some love" stuff. The lyrics correspond with the music of this album well, both are just straight forward and simple. If you just want some simple, pop-rock, this album is for you.

For a lot of people, there is a thin line between a 4.5 and a 5 star album. For me; there's a huge difference between a 1.5 and a 1 star album. 1.5 albums are albums that have major flaws, but are for the most part, tolerable, and their sounds are completely listenable from beginning to end. WHAT.THE.FUCK. is this though? Weezer had a good streak before critics, foolishly, raped and murdered Pinkerton, a record that spelled a new hope for a promising band, and that killed all of the serious nature out of Rivers Cuomo. Now he makes superficial, 'power pop' records that are completely and utterly terrible. Everything from this point on has been unlistenable entirely and it's depressing. There's always the song that, at first, sounds decent enough, and there's a crowd of people that claim Weezer's back because of it. As soon as the terrible terrible album comes out, however, it obliterates the fans hope and dreams to nothing. Stop hoping, this album already should have eliminated it. Terrible terrible terrible rock abomination.

Nearly every single song has a guitar solo consisting of playing the vocal line of the chorus on guitar. Other than that, it's a decent pop album.

The Green Album is the third album after The Blue Album and Pinkerton, arguably two of the greatest albums of the '90s. After most bands release an album after two great ones, the quality drops at least a little. The quality of this album dropped a little more than expected. Although the spirit of The Blue Album is here, the emotion and the longing of Pinkerton is gone, replaced with an at ease Rivers, which is very boring.
1. Don't Let Go - This track is pretty decent. I don't feel it's memorable enough to be the opening song, compared with My Name is Jonas of the Blue Album and Tired of Sex of Pinkerton. It's okay. 2.5/5
2. Photograph - My personal favorite of this album, the song starts out with Rivers with the guitar and handclaps. After this, an explosion of music comes out and it's totally unexpected. Really strong track. 5/5
3. Hash Pipe - This sounds like nothing Weezer has ever done. The falsetto singing is awesome. And the song is a lot harder than anything they've done. Nice Song. 5/5
4. Island in the Sun - I don't really like this song. It's a bit too soft for me. This song is very relaxing, but after Hash Pipe, it feels weird. 2/5
5. Crab - This song is a little annoying, but it has a really nice melody. Pretty good song. 4.5/5
6. Knock-down Drag-Out - This was one of the first I've heard of this album. It's pretty good, but pretty forgettable. 3/5
7. Smile - This is my favorite song on this album. It's really, REALLY good. It moves really nice and Pat's drumming on this song is top notch. The solo is awesome. 5/5
8. Simple Pages - I like this song. Rivers almost raps on this song, which is pretty weird. It's fast paced and the chorus is nice. 4.5/5
9. Glorious Day - Same deal with Knock-Down Drag-Out. 3/5
10. O Girlfriend - This is like Glorious Day and Knock-Down Drag-Out, but it holds your attention a lot better. The verse in this song is so longing. It's awesome. 4/5
This album would be rated a lot better if it had more emotion. Although I recommend this, buy The Blue Album and Pinkerton first.

After the experimental but critically-bashed Pinkerton, Weezer took a break. They then decided to re-create the Blue Album. Hell, they even gave it the same name. They tried to revert to the poppier song writing they implied on the Blue Album, and, well, they succeeded. The problem was that they forgot to really put anything into the songs. They're catchy, but they really don't have any substance to them.

Saying the best weezer record is the green album sets off bombs in my mind. i can say that weezer is one of my favorite bands but i can say that this has to be the weakest of their albums. the first album that they had sold out on. it's an album of songs and not songs of an album. yes it's the first album that i've ever liked as a whole and it make me find an interest in music but then i didn't realize the simplicity of the songs. sure they are catchy songs for awhile but rivers didn't use alot of his intelligence for this album. every song is the same. a guitar riff followed by a verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo (that always seems to be echoing the chorus lyrics) and the end...nothing really stands out.
