Gimmicky, and not really a clever gimmick either (why anyone would want to fuse popular hip-hop tracks with Nobuo Uematsu's score from FFVII is beyond me).
Despite that, this sort of works at times and will definitely give everyone familiar with the source material a quick fix of nostalgia. As for being anything truly necessary, it really isn't. Certainly one for the fans, however.

This album is too entertaining.
Though there are a number of unmemorable tracks that you'd rather skip, the fun gimmick should attract FFVII or Hip-Hop fans from all over.
